Honda is shooting for the lowest price point, but I know what you are saying.
Honda wants to market this to the same audience that Scion is going after.
So I wouldn't expect a lot better from the Civic - Toyota and Honda tend to run neck and neck in performance and mpg, and I suspect the new Fit is going to be very similar to the existing Scion xA in terms of size, weight, and aerodynamic resistance.

He's holding his nose because that's the neanderthal way of saying he has produced a stinky and unfavorable plan involving a duck eaten in a Honda as a means of satisfying his craving for raw duck.
This "Airwave" doesn't impress me stylistically, and based on the styling direction in which Honda NA seems to be headed, it won't fit in the lineup.
While I have always enjoyed the smaller Hondas (Fit/Jazz/City, Beat, et al.) I think they would be wise to wait for the next generation before bringing it to the States.

I am not sure if everyone knows this, but the Honda City and the Honda Jazz is basically the same platform, in a sedan and hatchback form respectively.
In Japan, the City is known as Honda Fit-Aria or Honda Fit Sedan while the Jazz is known as the Honda Fit.
I think the Honda Airwave has the potential to do well here if Honda Malaysia could come up with a way to turn it into a 7-seater.

Personally I see two important models for Honda Malaysia and in general Honda of Asia to focus their attention on for the near term.
This means that if there is no Airwave in Japan or Thailand (the nearest 2 countries with an R&D facility) with 3 rows of seats, then Honda Malaysia cannot conjure up a 7 seater Airwave out of thin air.
Honda really needs a good low-end model to serve as the 'entry level' model for new Honda owners.

Besides the space and the fuel effiency, one of the super-extras is the moonroof, almost tt of the lexus ES300 or 407 SW.
I am quite sure that the airwave's wheelbase is longer than the jazz/city.

About the seat, this is where the confusion started, as they spot the same head rest, same grove pattern on the seat, etc. The rear bench seat look quite decent actually, not forgeting that this model falls into the compact car category.
OK, the name for this mystery wagon is confirmed to be Airwave, and is scheduled to be launched on 7 April 2005 in Japan.
I am quite sure that if the Airwave is available from KM, will win over majority of the potential Colt Plus buyer (provided the price is right), and may be even a small portion of those looking at Peugeot (206 & 307SW).

Honda (and less SUV-minded drivers) could use a Civic-based five door sportwagon to cover the growth niches though.
The C pillar looks a little odd and I'm not really a fan of that large chrome strip accross the front maybe it is the camera angle.
This could either be the new Honda Stream or a new model.
