 Amazon.co.uk: Honesty: Music
Honesty, is a largely self-composed album (with some co-writes by Shakespear's Sister's Marcella Detroit, Alisha's Attic's Karen Poole and veteran British folkstress Judie Tzuke.) Alex says, "Every song on the album is true, and about something that really happened.
Written and composed mainly by Parks herself, the album has a stronger, more personal feel than herdebut with her raspy vocals are set to a backdrop of adult contemporary pop and rock.
I wanted to call it 'Honesty' because it's all so bare, I felt like I really wanted to show ME!" The first single "Looking For Water" is a beautiful anthemic ballad which was inspired by a friend of Alex's who "takes from people all the time, 'cos they're too fragile to give to you."

Maybe Todd’s lyrics are too maudlin for mass consumption, with their peculiar innocence and brutal honesty.
“I remember what is good about me,” she sings over gentle Van The Man horns, “if I let it out of hiding.” Todd’s signature wistfulness shines strikingly on Manzanita, beautifully complementing her eccentric honesty.
On her latest, Manzanita (translation: ‘little apple’), Todd works through her sorrows better than ever before.

 Ryan Adams: Heartbreaker: Pitchfork Review
The result is an album of astonishing musical proficiency, complete honesty and severe beauty.
But this album wasn't written to be complex.
Heartbreaker shows Ryan Adams sweeping all of the clichés of mass- produced, "new country" under the rug and tapping into everything that makes genuine country music unique and beautiful: raw emotion, deep groove and clever storytelling.

The 5000 Spirits or the Layers of... at xaosearch.com
His 'First girl I loved' - covered by Judy Collins as 'First boy I loved' on her WILDFLOWERS album - is simply one of the most beautiful songs ever written to a first love, looking back with honesty and tenderness on the gifts exchanged, both physical and emotional.
Mike's other songs on this album run the gamut from love songs ('Painting box' and the eternally lovely 'Gently tender') to humorous looks at our place in the world ('Little cloud' and 'The hedgehog's song') to a song offering encouragement to the listener to reach for his full potential ('You know what you could be').
This has been singled out by many reviewers as not only the high point of this album, but of the band's career as well -- and to be sure, from this period onward, it remains one of their most adventurous, popular pieces.

 Nirvana Album Reviews
Nevermind may be a better sounding and more consistent album, but it doesn’t have this album’s gut-wrenching honesty and emotional resonance.
Also on the album are the melodic “Been a Son,” the early Nirvana-classic “Sliver,” the exciting b-side “Aneurysm,” and, for the completists, the garagey “Spank Thru,” one of the band’s earliest songs, and the album’s only ‘unknown’ song.
The album’s other energy-blast is “Territorial Pissings,” which is about the only song on this album that could qualify as ‘punk’ (using the clichéd definition of “fast and aggressive rock song that speeds ahead so fast you’re ruining the seat cover”).

 Sepultura - Death Metal
Lyrically this albums stands defiant, viciously dissecting society and the human condition and setting it to a stirring selection of speed metal with an overemphasis on politics but an enduring honesty of anger.
For this intensity and individualism this album rewarded its creators and listeners alike with a testament to the metallic spirit that does not age with time but holds forth its celebrative fusion of angst and joy of life for all ages to learn from.
On the next album, the synthesis is made, but in the meantime "Schizophrenia" is a ripping testament to one era of Sepultura history.

The rerelease of THIRD finally reconciles all of the album's material and sequences it with the use of the producer's notes from the sessions.
Though THIRD (also known by the band's original title SISTER LOVERS) was released as a Big Star album, it is largely regarded as Chilton's solo effort.

 CrimethInc. Ex-Workers' Collective : otm - about
In a genre of traditional music, Sandman stands out from many who get stuck trying to emulate the past without bringing an awareness of the current world, and he he tells his tale with a creative honesty that delivers fresh relevance to the folk/country arena.
Musically eclectic, the album still flows as a cohesive whole, from fast paced narrative sing-alongs to achingly personal, gutter-dredging dirges.
His unique fusion of folk/country with a modern singer/songwriter sensibility plays out in a refreshingly vital and sincere album.

 Parachutes
The album starts with "Don't Panic," in which spacey delay-laden guitar effects ride effortlessly above a bouncy acoustic riff that is underscored by the tight groove of the rhythm section.
It does not hurt that their lead singer and lyricist, Chris Martin, is an amazingly talented songwriter and, in the same vein as The Verve's Richard Ashcroft and Shack's Michael Head, is unafraid of articulating his most personal and difficult emotions with honesty and sincerity.
Parachutes is an addictive album whose plentiful hooks reward on every listen.

Though first-rate, Ghost simply confirms that there will never be another Nebraska — an album that's not just a collection of songs, but more like an exact photograph that holds history still, and which serves as a history lesson for future generations.

Amazon.com: Music: How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
The album is a graceful, ambitious, and epic execution of rock style and substance, never straying away from U2's signature soaring guitar chords and lyrical honesty.
This album proves U2 are still significant in today's music scene, because it sold more than 800,000 copies in the US in its first week of release, which is incredible for a band that have been going for 20 years.
All of the aforementioned qualities are noticeable on the album's opener 'Vertigo', a thrilling execution of rock mania, 'Miracle Drug', which succeeds greatly due to the breathtaking guitar chords in the middle of the song (the Edge is still very edgy), and 'Yahweh', a reflective look at a man's journey with God.

Barenaked Ladies: Maroon - PopMatters Music Review
It's too early to say whether Maroon will compare in terms of sales, and in all honesty the mass musical audience has never shown a huge affinity for intelligent pop, but this is an album that may mark one of the top highlights of an already illustrious career.

 Article - Manifesto Review
This division of the album is at once a dangerous and a brave tactic: it has the viirtue of honesty but, in aiming to please audiences both existing and potential, it's easy to miss both.
But "Manifesto", the album, is constructed in two halves: "East Side" (to which "Manifesto", the track, is the introduction), and "West Side".
As Ferry's opening shot in what must be, for him, an album of tremendous significance, it becomes a triumph of the imagination, a pleasing touch of arrogance.

The quiet passion so apparent in the studio proved even stronger on record as its deeper purpose was revealed: songs like "I Know" owe their magnetism to the honesty of the self-doubt revealed, Bob confronting the presence of good and evil inside his own soul.

After this album she would record two more records (available in the Original Jazz Classics series) over the next few years and then unfortunately disappear back into obscurity.
She does not just sing a pre-fab melody, she tells the story of each song with an honesty and straight-forwardness that compels the listener to pay attention as if someone is speaking to them: much like Carmen McRae, Anita O'Day (before heroin became her friend) even Ella Fitzgerald.

But, like all Micus albums, it is characterized by honesty and character, not to mention humility, and given these qualities (and his always fresh instrumental arrangements) I think it deserves a '4'--even if I don't play it very often.
"Athos" is built around a visit he apparently made at a monastery in Greece; the music is duly reverential and mostly sombre, and features more vocal material than on any of his other albums.
This is one of my least favorite Micus albums (all of which I own), largely because I can't quite get into the multi-tracked chants that are the highlight of the cd.
