Honiara erupts as PM quits - World - smh.com.au
Rini resigned in parliament in Honiara this morning after just eight days as prime minister and as MPs were due to vote on a motion of no-confidence against him.
News of Rini's resignation sparked hours of celebration in Honiara, with opposition supporters cheering, singing and dancing as they rode through the streets of the capital.
The scenes were in stark contrast to those which greeted Rini's election as prime minister last week, when two days of riots and looting left most of Honiara's Chinatown district burnt down.
