Additional Resources - A Brief History of Honor Oak
Austin-Sparks, was the young minister of Honor Oak Baptist Church from 1921, but he was also in increasing demand more widely as a Christian convention speaker in England (and 1925 in the USA), and he quickly began to draw people to Honor Oak from more than the immediate local area of his church.
The interdenominational motives thought to underlie this new move were not, however, appreciated by the British Baptist Union, who accordingly gave the minister and his deacons the option of vacating the Church premises by the year end.
Austin-Sparks felt this to be a denial of the church’s universal character; so from the outset of Honor Oak Conferences in 1926 provision was made for such celebration.
