HOOD Band transplants go-go from DC
The HOOD band, which stands for "having only one dream," has spread the go-go message down the east coast with performances in Virginia, Georgia and Florida, and has been asked to play in Philadelphia, says rapper Kaandra Wilson, an architectural engineering student who goes by the stage name Sunset Doe.
During the segues, he says, the bands "started dropping it into a pocket beat," maintaining a constant rhythm that was generally anchored by a drummer and keyboardist with the added percussion of the timbales, an instrument whose texture somewhat suggests the sound of beating on an upturned five-gallon plastic bucket.
Live, the HOOD Band's music undulates from one song to the next, subtly shifting textures and rhythms and alternating the leads between both the vocal and instrumental performers with such dazzling rapidity that it becomes difficult to follow who's doing what.

Heckler Magazine - Skate, Snowboard, Music, Ramp Plans
Hoods have been known to most of the Sacramento community as bullies in the music scene — most of the stories, of course, have been fictitious with little or no instances to draw these statements from.
It would seem like the band hated everyone on their rise to the up when, in actuality, they were giving props to bands in the community.
From the band formerly known as ‘Sacto Hoods,” a band that built their fan base on live shows and constant self-promotion, it would only be fitting to let good ol’ Mikey have the last word.

 HOOD - Press: Reviews
We often assume bands that change their sound do so cynically, trying to capitalize on the latest trends, but Hood aren't such opportunists: this is a band almost childlike in their honest indulgences, playing with genres like toy blocks, changing their sound drastically whenever something new inspires them.
Hood has always been the uncrowned tzars of finding the well-hidden gates between electronica, indie rock and folk, and this is possibly even more obvious when we get all these aspects of the band lined up one after another.
But Hood are hipper than most, incorporating a lot of multi-instrumental and electronic experimentation in their own records and running a label (555) that is definitely on the global forefront of progressive electronica with releases from Downpour, Steward, Remote Viewer and Kid 606.

The various tales and adventures of Robin Hood have been written, re-written and made into ballads, books and movies so many times that it's difficult enough to figure out what parts of the Robin Hood legend are canon and which are of more recent invention, let alone whether or not the man really existed.
Robin Hood and Little John ambush and rob some monks of St. Mary's Abbey in the fourth fytte, and the sheriff arranges a shooting contest to trap Robin Hood in fytte five, and a fight breaks out between the sheriff's men and Robin's outlaws.
Marion is a later invention in the Robin Hood legend (the ballad itself is similar to other, earlier broadsides), and is probably an attempt by writers to elevate Robin the lover as the legend became romanticized.

Hood: Outside Closer: Pitchfork Record Review
Each Hood album seems to contain at least one single whose first minute sounds like the work of a band that is poised to take over the world, a casually brilliant combination of living-room sound and electronic future-think that trounces everything you've heard in months.
Only there's a catch: That's not really the kind of band this is. It's not that a track like "The Lost You" is so different from the rest of their work-- and it's not that there's anything about the songs around it that's sub-par-- it's just that they're really not interested in glory.
This, in fact, may be as good as Hood have ever been at letting songwriting and sprawl play off of one another-- even though their electronic tweaks back away and the violin takes a larger role.

The band’s accomplishments didn’t stop there, they’ve continued to rake in fans and critical acclaim from coast to coast over the past two years.
Hood introduced them to his father’s music and their repertoire began with traditional bluegrass tunes and they continued to add their character-driven originals and tossed in a few rockin’ covers.
The guys definitely missed their band mate, but refused to miss a beat and quickly recruited national fiddle champ Dennis Ludiker on board and haven’t slowed down yet.

Fronted by Patterson Hood, the son of former Muscle Shoals session bassist David Hood, the band rules its turf with a triple guitar lineup that immediately draws a comparison to another guitar heavy southern rock outfit, but the truth be told, Skynyrd never wrote songs this southern, let alone this good.
Thanks to the band sharing lead vocal duties among its three songwriters, every track is a different voice on life in the margins that Jagger and Richards only pretended to live on the grooves of Exile in Main Street.
Instead, this band who would be king works the trenches, rules the road instead of the airwaves and rarely if ever, looks back at its own face on a magazine cover.

 Hood: Outside Closer (2005): Reviews
The Leeds, England band follow their acclaimed 2001 release 'Cold House' with this 10-track effort which, like its predecessor, combines acoustic guitars and some glitchy electronica elements into moody indie rock.
Hood’s particular brand of indie rock is easily recognizable and refreshingly unique, and despite a few faults along the way, Outside Closer is an excellent album, if not totally fulfilling of its promise.
It is expected that Outside Closer will stand out as one of the albums of 2005 if not purely because Hood remain true to their desires not to downsize their penchant for introspect and questions of the heart above the need for mass exploitation.

And on the unrepentant ballad "Heathens," Hood sings lines like "I don't need to be forgiven" and "She ain't revved 'til the rods are thrown" with a weathered conviction.
Hood, the band's principal songwriter, is also its clearest, most distinctive and conscientious voice, whether channeling anguished rage ("Do It Yourself," a short, spiked rocker about a friend's suicide), or hard-won emotional perspective (the bittersweet "(Something's Got to) Give Pretty Soon," an album highlight that sifts through the fallout of a divorce).
But if Hood is the group's visionary and most compelling writer, the Drive-By Truckers are a far, far cry from the Patterson Hood Band.
