 BNR Metal Pages -- Kyuss
After the not-critically-acclaimed Wretch, the band hooked up with former Masters Of Reality frontman Chris Goss as producer, rose to prominence with the Blues album, and continued developing their very distinctive style up the excellent Circus album.
Now regarded as one of the main innovators in the field of so-called stoner rock, Kyuss carved a niche for themselves with their highly unique brand of sludgy guitars and psychedelic, 70's overtones -- it can be safely said that while many bands sound like Kyuss, none really have captured the Kyuss spirit completely.
Sadly, the band broke up soon afterward, due to disillusionment over less-than-successful sales.

CD Baby: VICTOR SILA: Waiting - from starpolish
Victor, the first born in a family of five, was an imaginative kid who got hooked on music the moment he saw Michael Jackson's performance on Motown 25.
I recorded my album in some of the best studios in San Francisco, hired one of the best engineers in San Francisco, Matt Kelly (George Clinton and The P-Funk, Tupac, Chris Isaac) and featured local talents like Vinyl on horns and guitar and San Francisco's own Diva, Ledisi, on background vocals.
Victor's debut album features songs like "Hakuna Matata (No Worries)" a hot dance tune that mixes Afro-beats and dance.

 Stunt Monkey Band Page
After that, they went back to California with their album and eventually hooked up with the UTR Music Group to release the new album.
Their new album, simply named '[self-titled]' to reduce confusion (mostly the band’s), was produced by Bill Stevenson (Black Flag, Descendents, ALL) at the Blasting Room in Ft. Collins, Colorado.
Their new album doesn't sound like it was recorded in the garage, even though that's where they practice.

Amazon.ca: Music: A Song for All Seasons [CD]
It is perhaps Renaissance's most symphonic song and if the orchestrations seem somewhat different from previous Renaissance efforts and yet somehow hauntingly familiar, it may well be because they were done by Louis Clark, who did similar work for the Electric Light Orchestra before losing his soul and doing the infamous "Hooked on Classics" albums.
There are eight tracks on the album, a radical departure for a group that had averaged only five tracks per album on its previous three, understandable since the hallmark of Renaissance was always their length set pieces.
I have listened to this album, and I want to review it.

 411mania.com » Music » Rancid, Indestructible Review
Rancid were one of the principle three bands of the mid 90s punk resurgence that got me so hooked on music as a young'un.
These songs as well as the majority of their last album just struck me as trying too hard and a lot of them just glossed over a lot of the things I always liked most about Rancid, be it the genre-blending, the subtle tones in Tim's gravely voice, or even Matt Freeman's insane bass solos.
This is the best rock-out song on the album, by far.

This is the follow up album to the excellent Dummy from Portishead, which at the time was rated as pure brilliance.
I got the first Portishead album as a present when it was first released.

 TrouserPress.com :: Tool
While Tool worked on its second album, D'Amour hooked up with some buddies &; Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards from Failure and Chris Pitman from Zaum — and cut a covers LP as the Replicants.
Undertow misses Opiate's brutal economy, though each track has at least a couple of slick tempo changes to help hold interest (sixteen minutes of "Disgustipated" is a hair too much, however).
Tool's full-length album is even more molten but not quite as consistent as the EP.

 Nirvana - Nevermind sputnikmusic
To anyone who doesn’t have any Nirvana albums, “Nevermind” is a good place to start considering their other albums may take more time to get hooked on you.
On foreign versions of the album, “Nevermind” closes with “Endless Nameless”, which is a long and cryptic sounding jam that almost sets the stage for their weird “Incesticide” rarities album that was released a year after.
All that’s left now is the few albums Nirvana released, with the addition of odds and ends tracks scattered about, and a seemingly clean slate for anyone to come in and see what they were about.

"Killers" was the Maiden album that started it all for me. I was hooked after I heard this, and 20+ years later I'm still an avid Maiden fan today....
I feel most of the songs on this album are stretched, compared to songs on their later albums which had something new to offer every minute into the song.
Iron Maiden's second album, isn't thought of as being a classic metal album, but maybe it should be.

This album is definitely more heavy going than their more recent releases and really makes Splinter sound a bit of a joke to be honest (not a fan).

 Susan Jacks
Not long after she hooked up with Bruce Allen Management who brought in Prism's Tom Lavin to produce the 'Forever' album in 1982.
While working with Valdy on a studio project in Vancouver, Jacks came across the guitar work of Norman MacPherson who he brought on board to replace not only McCaw as a live guitarist, but to help in the studio on the 'Poppy Seeds' album.
She would have a litany of record label and managerial problems highlighted by her feud with Casino Records president Ray Pettinger who had withheld her 1975 recorded album 'Dreams'.

 Amazon.co.uk: Music: Nightbird
Andy & Vince have created one of their best albums to date with this album, I cannot fault it in anyway, I was hooked the minute I heard it.
Nightbird, Erasure's first album of new and original material since 2000's rather disappointing Loveboat, sees the boys enter a new stage in their long partnership with a self-produced, well-crafted slice of pure synth loveliness, which squashes any rumours that Andy and Vince are no longer the purveyors of fine pop they once were.
What we have with this album is a collection of very fine pop songs, the lead single Breathe completely encapsulates the mood of this album and fully justifies its #4 in the UK singles chart.

Keep in mind this: I haven't gotten a chance to listen to "Pale" yet, so imagine I'm reviewing this album with no knowledge of how good (or bad) "Pale" is. With that said, on to the review.

Disco Inferno: D.I. Go Pop - PopMatters Music Review
As ignored as Disco Inferno was in North America, the band, surprisingly enough, didn't get heaps of press in the UK, either, as the album was completely shut out when the major publications made their year-end lists.
You'd read quotes about how their album was unlike anything anybody had done before, how utterly incredible it was, but if you lived in North America, far away from a good record store, the only thing you would know about Disco Inferno's album D.I. Go Pop would be its distinctive cover art.
The album comes to a gorgeous climax on the final two tracks.

 Camel [www.progweed.net]
Camel certainly has reserved for them a special place in my music collection, being one of the first progressive rock groups I ever discovered, and their classic albums never fail to cast their subtle, melodic, magical spells every time I play them.
After a number of albums that flirted with slicker structures and formats, Camel became embroiled in a tenuous legal struggle with their former manager, halting the release of any new music until the late 80s.
Camel was formed in 1972 when Andy Latimer, Andy Ward and Doug Ferguson hooked up with the older and more experienced Peter Bardens, formerly of a group called Them.

Funk Page -- Average White Band
After their 1973 debut album, Show Your Hand, went unnoticed, they hooked up with producer Arif Mardin to record Average White Band (frequently called AWB because of the initials on the cover).
AWB managed a couple more gold albums in Person to Person (January 1977) and Warmer Communications (March 1978), and its popularity lasted longer in the UK than in the US, but by the start of the '80s the band was permanently out of fashion.
AWB nearly replicated its success with the third album, Cut the Cake, and its title single, both of which reached the Top Ten.

I really shouldn't even try to quote the lyrics, but I think they go something like this, "they sit in stoic men's closed meeting rooms dressed in their fbi cia wannabe but the are all just the corporal sludge…" I'm not sure if that's correct, but you get the idea.

I was hooked but found out that apart from another mini-album there was to be no more.
Anyone expecting a 'grunge' (God, that word sticks in the throat with retrospect) album be warned - this is an early 80's metal band heavily influenced by Kiss and Led Zeppelin who wore make-up and Spandex.
Singer, Andrew Wood, had died of a drug O.D. before the album's release.

Into Far Eastern spiritualism, he hooked up with John McLaughlin in the mid-'70s for a moving jazz guitar album and tour, but by the end of the decade Santana was releasing a rather embarrassing disco-rock album.
On the album his guitar effortlessly soars with such divergent styles as the modern rock of Everlast and Eagle Eyed Cherry, the hip-hop of Lauryn Hill and Goodie Mob's Cee-Lo, and the jazzy stylings of Dave Matthews.
Davis says that when he put out the word that Santana was looking for collaborators for the album, the finest of the younger generation were lining up to work with the legend.

An album can mean any number of things to any number of people, and what I got from this album could be completely different from what it means to you.

Compare Prices and Read Reviews on Squint - Steve Taylor at Epinions.com
Definitely the most popular song from this album (likely due to it being the least threatening or confusing), this happy little tune starts out with an amusing little sequence of acapella vocals before Taylor’s alternative sensibilities kick in.
But I was hooked, and now, seven years later, Squint remains in my memory as one of the most intriguing, intelligent, and challenging Christian rock records of all time.
Needless to say, I was unprepared for the amount of good stuff that would be packed into the album.

It takes plenty of plays to find all the hooked nettles Six Finger Satellite has hidden in whirly energy flashes like "Laughing Larry" and "Neuro-Harmonic Conspiracy." The band reeks of psychosis and superiority, but the terse presentation is impeccable.
