TV REVIEWS; On ABC, 'Hooperman' And 'Slap Maxwell' - New York Times
For the network struggling to get out of the ratings cellar, the new entries are little short of admirable as they explore ways to get out of the entrenched ruts common to most series.
''Hooperman'' is described by ABC as ''an unusual blend of ensemble comedy and drama.'' The show has been deftly tailored to the talents of John Ritter, who can slide from a joke to tears with uncommon grace and finesse.
Hooperman rinses off the soap with water from his toilet tank.

I used to rush home from wherever I was to catch "Hooperman." It walked the tightrope between comedy and drama quite appealingly, and John Ritter -- easily one of television's most under-rated actors -- did a terrific job.
It had some very fine moments indeed; my favorite being where Hooperman convinces a would be suicide jumper to leave his perch by demonstrating what the impact on the human body would be by using a watermelon as an example.
HOOPERMAN was a superb show, and one of the few shows that I remember fondly during the 80's.

 Once upon a time
Believe me it is because in our parallel universe if we wanted anything like that or if any of us dared to think or even speak or write anything which may not quite fit in with what the service providers thought or did, we were victimised because we live in a parallel universe called Krapton.
Everyone seems afraid of them because you never know where they will hit next but you can be sure the people who are meant to serve the people who pay up will always support them as they too are afraid of them.
Tony Blair does similar things to Hooperman- he’s a lawyer, he tells porkies and then tries to cover them up, he goes to war against innocent people, and he tries to get so called colleagues to get him out of the Kraptonite.

Since Bijoux hated cops, their partnership was off to a "ruff" start.

 John Ritter's TV Series
Although the show was a comedy drama with hilariously funny moments, Harry Hooperman was an Inspector with the San Francisco Police Department.
He was overworked, poorly paid and his generous, easy-going nature was frequently abused by his colleagues and friends.
Like 'Hearts Afire', 'Hooperman' was the product of another great talent, in this case, Steven Boccho, who, after co-starring his wife, Barbara Bosson as Hooperman's sometimes over-the-top 'Captain Celeste Stern', went on to spearhead the hugely successful L.A. Law and N.Y.P.D. Blue'.
