		More than three years ago, NJ Transit officials dangled some hope for commuters on the Raritan Valley line -- which runs from Newark through Union, Somerset and Hunterdon counties -- by promising changes that would make the transfer a simple stroll across one platform.
		But NJ Transit officials say they cannot put Raritan Valley trains on track 1 or 2 in Newark during rush hour because those trains would create traffic congestion on the rails in order to get in position to turn around to head back west.
		Part of the complication is the fact that the Raritan Valley line is not electrified, so its trains run on diesel fuel and only electric-powered trains are allowed to run through the tunnel beneath the Hudson River.

		The 2005 Hope Valley Train Crawl takes place on Bank Holiday Monday 30th May. This is an all day event taking in upwards of 13 country pubs, in the villages along the Peak District section of the Hope Valley railway line (ie between Edale and Grindleford).
		Note a good amount of walking is involved in Hope and Grindleford, and a steep uphill walk is involved in Bamford.
		If you wish to do any diversions by bus, such as Edale to Hope via Castleton, a Derbyshire Wayfarer pass at £7.50 may be a better deal.

		The Edale Rambler Folk Train has been running for ten years and takes music lovers from the centre of Sheffield to the glorious vale of Edale, while the Manchester to Hathersage folk train takes you along the Hope Valley Line to the village of Hathersage.
		We were going for a walk from Hope and the Folk Train was a lovely surprise and got us off to a very good start.
		The Hope Valley Trains have proved a consistent success since their introduction ten years ago, which sometimes means there is limited seating capacity in the carriage with the band.
