Hopedale is a town located in the North of Labrador, the mainland portion of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Hopedale is the legislative capital of the Inuit Land Claims Area Nunatsiavut, and where the Nunatsiavut Assembly meets.
Hopedale was founded as an Inuit settlement named Agvituk, Inuktitut for "Place of the Whales." In 1782, Moravian missonaries from Germany arrived in the area to convert the population.

The Moravian Mission to the Eskimoes on the north-east coast of Labrador was established in 1771 by a colony of brethren and sisters from England and Germany, who on July 1st reached Unity's Harbour, and at once began the erection of a station, calling it NAIN.
Hopedale is bare and treeless in its general aspect and so in less degree are Nain and Okak, though all three have fir-trees in their neighbourhood.
Hopedale and Zoar had already been left behind in the south; Okak, Hebron, and Ramah, all to the north of Nain, had yet to be touched at in their turn.

In 1867 he joined Daniel of Hopedale in an endeavour to evangelize the northern heathen, among whom his childhood had been spent.  After this he settled with his family at Hebron, but when Mr.
Kretschmer, who came to Labrador in 1852.  This year he leaves his loved land after thirty-six years of service, during which he has been home once, twenty-seven years ago.  He is followed by the missionaries Kahle, Wirth, and Hlawatschek, who report their wives and children all well.

The west wharf is used by the ferries and is better for getting fuel.
None of the coastal towns in Labrador could be described as "pretty" but Hopedale is the nearest to that description.
Hopedale has a largely Inuit population and I found the people very friendly and helpful.

There may be some areas where we would need to consider aspects of the project and its effects beyond that, but I suspect that that would be the exception in terms of most of the measurable or detectable impacts that they would be addressed through that three layers of boundaries, I guess.
Barbour, I am just wondering whether or not that the Labrador Inuit Association has been advised by the VBNC, why their 22 of April had the temporary dock in their first registration, then the 21st of May that they dropped that and that was the only major change between the two.

This was "iceberg alley", a powerful ocean-directed corridor that icebergs and ice-flows follow, from Greenland to the north shores of Newfoundland, where a sampling of polar bears is sometimes landed, then on around the east coast of the Island.
The alternative was a 2000 mile drive that included the rough roads across Labrador, a ferry across the broad St. Lawrence River, and the Atlantic crossing to Port au Basque, in order to return to Cow Head.
The high spot of this enforced trip was camping in central Labrador, in a spruce forest carpeted with brown and gray lichen - pristine, totally quiet, and dimly lit by a moonless sky - a mind boggling experience.

I was up there with a beautiful family, all the Innuit from the Nain area, and one from Hopedale, but he was a member of the family, and as for myself, they took me in as one of their own flesh and blood.

The Museum is located in the Moravian Mission House - a building attached to the church, which housed the ministers and their families.
The mission is the oldest wooden structure east of Quebec.
