Hopesfall: what I like about Hopesfall is that I can hear a lot of passion behind the music and this is something I personally often miss...People always have different tastes as to what is good and what is boring, we just write what we want to hear and what personally excites us.
Hopesfall: We just want the kids to have a good time, shake their asses a little, and leave feeling like their money was well spent.
Hopesfall: I've learned you have to work for what you want, you have to put in your time if you want to be successful and driving a van with a trailer in Canada from Oct-Mar can kill you.

BIOGRAPHICAL DATA: North Carolina's Hopesfall began in 1998, as a means to pass boredom through writing several songs, and hopefully playing a show.
As a result, Hopesfall began to set goals for itself, playing as many shows in as many venues as possible.
Hopesfall's debut full-length, "The Frailty of Words," would be released in July of 1999 through DTS Records.

The Fraility Of Words was the result of two months of weekend recording work.
After some personnel changes and various tribulations, Hopesfall released its second effort in 2001; No Wings To Speak Of was an EP released first on Takehold Records and later through Trustkill.
Returning to the studio shortly thereafter, Hopesfall released The Satellite Years in October 2002, as they continued being compared to Nora and Glassjaw for mixing hardcore metal with melodic undertones.

Hopesfall have risen to prominence in the emocore ranks as of late so it is by no surprise that they were summarily snatched up by a label as high profile in the scene as Trustkill Records.
While such a change could be devastating in other genres, Hopesfall barely miss a step as most fans of hardcore are accustomed to such changes as they happen almost daily.
Not as full fledged as the latter however, Hopesfall still bring a cargo hold full of aggression on their space odyssey, juxtaposing their graceful melodic passages with sneering riffs and ferocious vocal barks, navigating a soothing ride full of scenic heights and violent lows.

The drummer is new and one of the guitar players is new (the fourth guitarist to accompany Josh Brigham since the band's inception and first to work on a hopesfall release since the original guitarists, Brigham and Ryan Parrish).
However, hopesfall isn't a dime-a-dozen emocore band, and this is what truly makes this album an ultimate letdown.
I was so upset to see hopesfall go in this direction; they went backwards to become more acceptable to mainstream audiences.

A year later they released their EP "No Wings to Speak of" which was another amazing cd that then showed what the future of their sound would be like.
I conclusion this an amazing relese that shows the talent and imagination of this young band and I might even go as far to say that this band is hardcore's Pink Floyd.

Although, the band's Glassjaw comparison can still be drawn at times, especially on the staccato riff stacked "Start and Pause", the band strayed far away from getting any more tense than that, opting to go the route of bands like Codeseven and become a bit more melodically driven.
At the end of the day, despite the sprinkling of muscular guitars and screamo vocals, the change of style coupled with the slick production merely lumps Hopesfall in the heap of bands who use the same tricks, hoping in turn to shed their hardcore skin for more mainstream appeal.
While the outfit's heart may still be in the music, stadium rock choruses found on tracks like "The Ones" fit a bit more snug on bands like Story of the Year opposed to Hopesfall, who at times sound jagged and disjointed, but for all the wrong reasons.

North Carolina's Hopesfall is yet another band jumping on the metalcore bandwagon.
Though in recent history there have been a few groups that have separated themselves from all the repetitive noise in this scene (The Postman Syndrome, for exmaple), Hopesfall is not entirely successful in it's attempt to do this.
Though the music on The Satellite Years does manage to be more moody than the average Dillinger Escape Plan ripoff, the effect is as uncalculated and scattered as the majority of music in this genre.
