The township of Cross Creek retained its original territory and limits until May, 1806, when a portion of it was taken to form the township of Mount Pleasant; and in 1853 the township of Jefferson was formed from the western part of Cross Creek, reducing the township to its present limits.
Robert Patterson, of Smith township, presided at that meeting, and the law was adopted by all the townships in the county, with five exceptions.
Cross Creek township was a separate justice's district from its erection in 1790 till the erection of election districts, May 4, 1803, when it became embraced with other territory in District No. 3, and so remained till 1838, when the office of justice became elective, and the township an independent district.

South Beaver Township, the eighth of the political entities comprising the Blackhawk School District, once included all the county land areas north and west of the Ohio and Beaver Rivers.

The Beaver County Conservation District owns and maintains an environmental center and an 18 acre mitigated wetlands off Route 151 in Independence Township.
In March of 1990, the then sitting Board of Beaver County Commissioners agreed to let Allegheny County put the wetlands on a 78 acre bankrupt farmland, formerly the Maslek farm, in Independence Township.
This was to be fair trade off for the new jobs that the new airport was to generate for Beaver County residents.

Limestone was from quarries in Hopewell Township(bsf/bhb) In the 1960's some of the outer stones and most of the inner lining were standing(s&t), but when we visited the site in 1981, only a few rows of stones and a very small piece of inner lining remained.
