Adventures of Hoppity Hooper, The @ Toonarific Cartoons   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-17)
Like his anthropomorphic predecessors, Hoppity was an intelligent animal (a frog, to be precise) who hooked up with a couple of shady characters and was swept along on a series of comic misadventures.
The mischievous pair hoped to hide in the home of Hoppity Hooper, so they convinced the unsuspecting frog that they were his long-lost uncle and cousin.
Hoppity allowed them into his home, and never seemed to question just how an amphibian like himself would ever be related to a fox and a bear.

 Toon Tracker's Hoppity Hooper Page
Hoppity Hooper featured the escapades of a naive, lovable frog, Hoppity, and his cronies, Professor Waldo Wigglesworth, a shrewd and cunning fox, and Fillmore, a good-natured, dim-witted, bugle-blowing bear.
Hoppity Hooper was created by Jay Ward and written by Chris Jenkyns and Bill Scott.
When the Hoppity Hooper show was sold to General mills and ABC-TV in late 1963, Bill Scott took over for Reed as the voice of Fillmore.

The Adventures of Hoppity Hooper @ The Cartoon Scrapbook
In order to escape the law, the two roving retailers visited Hoppity's home and convinced the unsuspecting amphibian that they were his long-lost uncle and cousin.
Perpetuating this charade provided the two with a base of operations from which to hide out, and also drew Hoppity into their comic misadventures - traveling the country in a medicine-show wagon exploring Waldo's various get-rich quick schemes.
Each week the series presented two episodes of a Hoppity four-part cliff-hanger, along with repeat episodes from other Jay Ward (Rocky and his Friends, Bullwinkle) and Total TV (Underdog, Tennessee Tuxedo) series.

For one thing, when Hoppity Hooper came out, in the mid 60s, almost all of its "side shows" were recycled shows from Rocky and Bullwinkle (Fractured Fairytales and Bullwinkle's Corners episodes......none of which were being aired for the very first time).
Hoppity Hooper even had a "side show", which was not even germane to the Jay Ward Production house: The World of Commander McBragg (From Total TV Productions----the people who brought us cartoons such as Underdog and Tennessee Tuxedo).
During Hoppity Hooper, Jay Ward and Bill Scott drew on the feminine wiles and vocals of Chris Allen.

Unfortunately, Hoppity Hooper did not see the success of those series, although it possessed the same wit that the other Ward shows did.

But practically nobody knows about The Hoppity Hooper Show, which was made by the same people and came right between the two.
Hoppity Hooper (not to be confused with Hippety Hopper, a minor Warner Bros. character) was an innocent young frog lad (voiced by Chris Allen, who also did Scooter on Space Kidettes).
Like many of Ward's major characters (starting with the first, Crusader Rabbit), Hoppity's stories were told in cliffhanger form.

Jay Ward/Total TV Crossovers - Animation Show Forums
It was in the 1970, when everything went to syndication, that the co-mingling began, and at first it was limted to both studio's "lesser lights" -- cartoons that couldn't stand on their own as a show, but could be mixed in with others to come up with a 30-minute episode.
HOWEVER, I was a devoted viewer of the Hoppity Hooper Show during its all-too-brief network run.
The first occasion of a Total TV cartoon appearing on a Jay Ward show was when Twinkles aired on "Rocky and His Friends," simultaneous with the same shorts running on "King Leonardo and His Short Subjects." I'm not certain, but I believe that started in the second season of "Rocky and His Friends" (1960-1961).

Hoppity Hooper - Education - Information - Educational Resources - Encyclopedia - Music
Hoppity Hooper was an animated television series produced by Jay Ward in 1964, originally broadcast on ABC and later syndicated under the name "Uncle Waldo."
The recurring characters were Hoppity Hooper, a frog, voiced by Chris Allen; "Uncle" Waldo P. Wigglesworth, a fox, voiced by Hans Conried; Fillmore, a bear, voiced by Bill Scott; and the narrator, Paul Frees.
Fillmore and Waldo bore a distinct resemblance to Calvin and the Colonel, another bear-and-fox team who had a series a few years earlier.

After all, as far as I know, that orange-haired, "four-eyes" pre-teen cartoon boy, that he voiced, for Peabody's Improbable History, was the only character that he did, at all, for Jay Ward's many animated series.
Certainly he could not hold a candle to the likes of the other voice-over artists, that Ward used (Ward also produced the Hoppity Hooper and George of the Jungle series).
Walter Tetley deserves a Web Page because he is an extremely interesting man. The last few years of his life were also of an extreme nature.........that of extreme sadness, due to a tragic twist of fate around 1971.

Don Markstein's Toonopedia: George of the Jungle
George of the Jungle was the first Jay Ward half-hour since Rocky And His Friends (1959) to debut with an entirely new cast of characters, and no segments recycled from early shows.
Instead of reprising Aesop & Son or Fractured Fairy Tales, as Hoppity Hooper had done, its back-up segments were Tom Slick (about an intrepid racecar driver) and Super Chicken (Ward's only superhero parody).
As for George himself, it was writer Allan Burns who had the basic idea for him, but he underwent considerable modification in development.
