Topic: Hora staccato

  Hector Olivera
The view of the world from my bicycle is coming to an end...but not without listening to the upbeat Hora Staccato in Romania.
I do so enjoy listening to Gypsy music and for the exciting HORA STACCATO with a veritable battery of fiddlers, Hector applies his brakes for an all too brief visit to Rumanian before peddling furiously on to the coast of Brittany for the next track.
This too is a mind blowing excursion of ancient and modern sounds which collectively paint a musical picture of majestic building losing the battle against the elements.

User talk:Antandrus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hora is a traditional Romanian dance and is not a gypsy one!!!
Hora is the name for the large circle dance and is the most widespread dance in Romania, partly because any number of participants of both men and women, of any ability or age, can join in.
The term Hora is also used for the Sunday village dance, even where the Hora dance does not form part of the dance cycle.

As for the "horas": The 'hora' is a Romanian folk dance music found in all parts of the country.
And, actually, the track "March Hora" contains themes from the piece "Hora staccato" by Grigoras Dinicu.
The horas on this CD are definitely Romanian dances, especially in their lively parts, with some slow parts thrown in, consisting of a waltzy-restaurant-style music.

Years of careful and exacting practice to attain the technical prowess heard on this recording are combined with his naturally high speed of thought in several virtuoso technical performances.
In this program, Patrick presents speed as raw emotion in the ethnically charged Hora Staccato, wins the Olympic gold medal for triple tonguing in the lightning fast polka, Jenny Wren, and sets the world land speed record in the classic Bon Bon, The Carnival of Venice.
One is as impressed by the ease with which Patrick performs these difficult works as by his ability to excite audiences with such dazzling techno-hysterics!

yes, he never quite gave away how he did the one-bow staccatos that he used in this piece, although from the video one can try to assume it's based on a controlled 'spasming' of the right arm and wrist lol

DVD Violinists - Ferras / Szeryng / Grumiaux
Apparently Ferras gave a number of recitals for French television as we also have the Prelude from Bach's Partita No. 3 filmed May 19, 1958, Stravinsky's Chanson russe, with pianist Robert Weisz from December 17.
1963, and Fauré's Berceuse and Dinicu's Hora staccato, with pianist Pierre Petit, filmed November 8, 1973, the latter from what apparently was an informal salon performance before a small group of listeners.
All performances are filmed in fl/white with reasonably effective camera work giving us ample opportunity to observe the violinist close-up.
