  Parts of Airplane
At the rear of the wings and stabilizers are small moving sections that are attached to the fixed sections by hinges.
The hinged part of the vertical stabilizer is called the rudder; it is used to deflect the tail to the left and right as viewed from the front of the fuselage.
The hinged part of the horizontal stabilizer is called the elevator; it is used to deflect the tail up and down.

Aircraft horizontal stabilizer drive - Patent 4273006
a horizontal stabilizer may be actuated by a single actuator although it may employ a torque tube and multiple linkages.
Particularly acute is a horizontal stabilizer drive system wherein the entire stabilizer is rotated to provide trim.
The driven structure (in this case the horizontal stabilizer) must be designed to withstand a worse case division of load forces equal to one half the maximum driving force, plus the braking force, plus the fixed pin shear force acting on one actuator with the balance on the other actuator.

Subsequent airplane nose down stabilizer trim motion from 7.0 degress ANU to 2.0 degrees ANU was due to the use of primary trim.
Stabilizer motion from 2.0 degrees ANU to 0.4 degrees AND was commanded by the autopilot.
The horizontal stabilizer jammed at 0.4 degrees AND and remained jammed until the Acme nut threads failed.

FDR data indicated that the horizontal stabilizer’s last movement during the climbout was to 0.4º airplane nose down at 1349:51 as the airplane was climbing through 23,400 feet at 331 knots indicated airspeed (KIAS).
After this, no horizontal stabilizer movement was recorded on the FDR until the airplane’s initial dive 2 hours and 20 minutes later.
FDR and airplane performance data indicated that during the 3 to 4 seconds following the autopilot disconnect, the horizontal stabilizer traveled from its jammed position of 0.4º airplane nose down to beyond the maximum airplane-nose-down position that could be recorded by the FDR and remained beyond this position for the remainder of the flight.

ASN Aircraft accident description Embraer 120RT Brasilia N33701 - Eagle Lake, TX
Although planned for the third shift, the 47 screws from the top of the left leading edge assembly for the horizontal stabilizer were already removed by the second shift.
The cruise portion of the flight was uneventful and at 10:03 the aircraft was descending through 11800 feet to 9000 feet when the air loads caused the left horizontal stabilizer leading edge to bend downward and separate.
PROBABLE CAUSE: "The failure of Continental Express maintenance and inspection personnel to adhere to proper maintenance and quality assurance procedures for the airplane's horizontal stabilizer deice boots that led to the sudden in-flight loss of the partially secured left horizontal stabilizer leading edge and the immediate severe nose-down pitchover and breakup of the airplane.

 X-Plane, by Austin Meyer
Ten elements per side per wing or stabilizer is the maximum, and studies have shown that this provides roll rates and accelerations that are very close to the values that would be found with a much larger number of elements.
The aircraft linear and angular velocities, along with the longitudinal, lateral, and vertical arms of each element are considered to find the velocity vector of each element.
The airfoil data entered in Part-Maker is 2-dimensional, so X-Plane applies finite wing lift-slope reduction, finite-wing CLmax reduction, finite-wing induced drag, and finite-wing moment reduction appropriate to the aspect ratio, taper ratio, and sweep of the wing, horizontal stabilizer, vertical stabilizer, or propeller blade in question.
