Pope St. Hormisdas - Ökumenisches Heiligenlexikon
Under Pope Symmachus (498-514) Hormisdas held the office of deacon of the Roman Church and during the schism of Laurentius he was one of the most prominent clerical attendants of Symmachus.
Hormisdas appointed the Bishops [Saint] Germanus [of Capua] and John, a priest Blandus, two deacons, Felix and Dioscurus, and a notary, Peter.
Hormisdas caused a Latin translation of the canons of the Greek Church to be prepared by Dionysius Exiguus and issued a new edition of the Gelasian "Decretum de recipiendis Libris".

 ST. HORMISDAS
St. Hormisdas was born at Frosinone in the Roman Campagna.
The formula of Hormisdas which the Pope sent to be signed on this occasion is a masterpiece of clarity.
Hormisdas forbade the use of the expression "one of the Trinity was crucified," not because it could not be understood in a true sense, but because it was used as a Monophysite catchword.

 Epiphanius of Constantinople
The reigning pope was Hormisdas (514-23), and it was on this occasion that he composed his famous formula.
In the first, from Hormisdas to Epiphanius (col. 493), the pope complains that he has received as yet no letter and no legate to announce the patriarch's accession.
Hormisdas answers (col. 505-6), exhorting the patriarch to persevere in reconciling Monophysites and thanking him for his presents.

Hormisdas was enthroned as pope in a time when the schism between Rome and Constantinople, which had begun under Bishop Acacius (471-489), was still continuing.
Pope Hormisdas also demanded that the bishops sign a document (the 'libellus') containing the so-called 'formula/regula fidei Hormisdae' (5) (the formula/rule of the faith of Hormisdas), which stated that it is in and through the Apostolic See that the Catholic faith is always preserved without fault.

Chapter The Retreat And Death Of Julian. of History of The Decline And Fall of The Roman Empire by Gibbon
Hormisdas and Arinthæus were appointed generals of the horse; and the singular adventures of Hormisdas are not undeserving of our notice.
Hormisdas at first excited the compassion, and at length acquired the esteem, of his new masters; his valor and fidelity raised him to the military honors of the Roman service; and though a Christian, he might indulge the secret satisfaction of convincing his ungrateful country, than at oppressed subject may prove the most dangerous enemy.
But the Barbarians were finally repulsed; the country became every day less favorable to the operations of cavalry; and when the Romans arrived at Macepracta, they perceived the ruins of the wall, which had been constructed by the ancient kings of Assyria, to secure their dominions from the incursions of the Medes.
