Acoustic location was originally applied to determining the presence and position of ships in fog.
Acoustic location was used from mid-WW1 to the early years of WW2 for the passive detection of aircraft by picking up the noise of the engines.
Whether the horns were of crude flat wood construction as they appear to be, or if the flat panels were a protective casing for a more conventional horn remains a matter for speculation at present.

Bicycle horns usually consist of a single horn operating at a single resonant frequency, with a reed made of stainless steel, located in the throat of the horn, and supplied with air by a rubber squeeze bulb.
Automobile horns are generally arranged in pairs, to produce a major third chord consisting of two notes: F and A, sounded together.
The word "horn" by itself is often used to refer to certain musical instruments, most commonly the French horn (as in the words to the popular children's song: "The horn, the horn, it sounds so forlorn"), as well as the tuba.

In a particularly preferred embodiment, the flared horn 26* is (as is the flared horn 26' of FIG.
Clearly, acoustic reciprocity dictates that the methods and apparatus taught in the present invention are equally applicable to routing the output sound from interiorly mounted electromagnetic transducers via a rotary acoustic joint to an output acoustic horn.

After 1928, horn loudspeakers were only found in theater PA systems, until the introduction in the late '40s of the Klipschorn, which spawned a revival of horn loudspeakers in the '50s.
A horn can be seen as an acoustic transformer that couples the air at the surface of the diaphragm with the air in the listening room, thus matching high pressure/low volume to low pressure/high volume. The name acoustic (impedance) transformer derives from this model of description.
The front horn will (again depending upon it's profile) give a certain reinforcement to the lower midrange, so ideally this horn is designed to raise the lower midrange to the level of the "bump" in the drivers frequency response.

With an OMNIRAY HORN, the acoustic image and the timbre of musical instruments is reproduced with uncanny fidelity, perfectly restoring the "live" scenery with all its dynamic qualities in a fashion never possible before.
The only circular horns prior to the Omniray design were megaphones which merely amplified the human voice and were not suitable for use in high-end audio applications.

By virtue of the changing wall angle, the curved wall horn horn has a dramatic change in its radiation pattern (the main reason constant directivity horns were developed).
Horns like an Altec 311 / 511 / 811 can produce close to flat response on axis, not because there drivers are flat up that high but because of narrowing directivity with increasing frequency.
Seriously, I have measured hundreds of horns with my TEF and built many, I am not able to think of any aspect of a straight sided horn that is a negative, other than the inferior low frequency loading, there constant angle, simply mimics the acoustics of radiating into some specific angle.

Placement of the acoustic cleaner is also important to ensure buildup areas are properly addressed.
For example, the ambient noise of an acoustic cleaner being sounded in a thin wall storage bin will be louder than an acoustic cleaner being sounded in a well-insulated boiler.
Acoustic cleaners also require gravity and/or gas flow to sweep away the particulate that has been resonated or fluidized by the acoustic energy.

Horns can be thought of as providing sound reinforcement to a transducer (usually a compression driver).
A horn increases the directivity of the compression driver, providing increased SPL in a certain area, over the frequency range for which the horn is designed.
However, round horns and radial horns tend to change their angles of spread (their directivity, measured by the directivity index, or DI) as the frequency changes.

 Sound & Communications - Audio
An acoustic horn is a device in which the sound is channeled through a gradually expanding cross-sectional area from the driver end (throat) to the radiating end (mouth).
The top region of horn directivity is that produced by the directional characteristics of the throat, generally as defined by the opening where the compression driver is mounted.
Where multiple horns are arrayed to cover the same frequency range, interference effects will cause response irregularities (called comb filtering because of the shape of the resulting frequency response curve) in the overlap zones.
