Hornchurch is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.
The seat encompasses Hornchurch, Rainham, Elm Park and the tiny village of Wennington.
Hornchurch is a predominantly suburban and Conservative-voting area, but the seat is seen as a swing seat due to Rainham and Elm Park's working class voters and because the wealthiest Emerson Park area of Hornchurch does not form part of the constituency, instead forming part of Upminster constituency.

In 1945 Hornchurch, previously in the Romford division, became a separate county constituency, coincident with Hornchurch urban district.
With an electorate which rose from 66,000 in 1945 to 100,000 in 1970 Hornchurch was one of the largest constituencies in the country.
The new Hornchurch constituency was won by Labour in February 1974 and held in November 1974.

The 1918 boundaries of the Streatham constituency remained unchanged until the 1965 changes to Greater London local government were eventually reflected in the constituency boundaries fought at the February 1974 general election.
The rest of the constituency, including the town of Streatham was now in the London Borough of Lambeth, and Streatham became one of four Borough Constituency divisions of Lambeth, along with 'Vauxhall', 'Norwood' and 'Lambeth Central'.

Norman Baker MP for Lewes was born in Aberdeen in 1957.
The younger of two brothers, he moved to Hornchurch Essex in 1968 before attending London University, where he secured a degree in German as well as running one of the college bars.
From 1989 to 1990, Norman worked in the House of Commons as the Lib Dems Environment Campaigner and through 1991 worked as a constituency organiser for the Lib Dem MP for Eastbourne.

The Upminster constituency is the least diverse in Greater London.
Currently, the borough is split between the parliamentary constituencies of Hornchurch, Romford and Upminster with the three constituencies entirely within the borough.
Before the next election the boundaries of these constituencies will change such that there will be a new Hornchurch and Upminster constituency and Rainham will become part of the new cross-borough Dagenham and Rainham constituency.
