Hornsey lent its name to a district council, covering a wider area than the "village" of Hornsey itself, until the creation of the London Borough of Haringey.
The area is in the Hornsey and Wood Green constituency.
Hornsey is the base of Hornsey Housing Trust, local Haringey housing association and provider of care and support for older people.

In 1894 Wood Green was created as an urban district, and later a municipal borough, of Middlesex.
In 1965, under the London Government Act 1963, the Municipal Borough of Wood Green was abolished and its area merged with that of the Municipal Borough of Tottenham and the Municipal Borough of Hornsey to form the present-day London Borough of Haringey.
On January 7, 2003, British police announced details of the discovery of traces of the toxin ricin in a flat in Palmers Green near Wood Green but often mistakenly attributed in the media as being located in Wood Green in the wake of the arrest of 6 terrorist suspects.

At that boundary change however that seat was divided between the previous Hornsey seat and the neighboring seat of Tottenham, to the east.
Hornsey and Wood Green is one of a handful of middle class parliamentary constituencies across the UK which returned a Conservative MP during the 1980s, swung to Labour in the 1990s, and was subsequently picked up by the Liberal Democrats in the 2005 general election.

Hornsey parish formed part of Middlesex, and its successor Hornsey Borough (centred at Hornsey Town Hall in Crouch End) remained just outside the old London County Council, but since 1964 Hornsey is administratively within the London Borough of Haringey in Greater London.
The Old Schoolhouse, where we are based, was built in 1848 by the Rector as the Infants' school, and is the N8 area's oldest building after Hornsey Old Church.
The Society is represented on the local Conservation Area Advisory Committees and supports the work of the Friends of Hornsey Church Tower and other local conservation groups, and maintains close links with Bruce Castle Museum, and local history societies.

Table 1 attached shows the numbers of long-term unemployed (over 12 months) and unemployed persons aged 16 to 24 resident in the Hornsey and Wood Green Parliamentary Constituency for each 12-month period ending in February each year from 1998 to 2004, the latest period for which data are available.
Table 2 attached shows the annual average number of ISA claimants claiming for over 12 months and the number of claimants aged 18–24 resident in the Hornsey and Wood Green constituency for each year from 1997 to 2004.

Webb, LibDem Shadow Health Secretary came to Hornsey & Wood Green yesterday to meet with myself, Lib Dem colleagues and three local residents who are all massively concerned and upset about Hornsey Central Hospital - or more accurately, the lack of anything tangible in its place since it was closed nearly six years ago.
Not being an expert in these matters and certainly without a green finger to my name I can but be impressed as a spectator - those who tend to garden do us all a great service as we enjoy the fruits of others' labour as we pass by.
It is six years since we were promised that if we (local residents, the Friends of Hornsey Hospital and Lib Dem campaigners) stopped our campaign to save the hospital - then the Trust would work together on consultation with us to a create new health facility for the community.

As 10 of Haringey's 19 wards are in Hornsey and Wood Green technically speaking the LDs don't need to do well outside the constituency the won last year in order to gain the borough.
I have lived in a ward (in Hornsey constituency) which has 2 Labour councillors for almost 4 years now and I never once received a single peice of literature from them (I only ever once received anything from the Labour MP outside of election).
Talking of the far left DBIV, I've noticed the Greens only standing one candidate in St Anns and West Green while Respect are standing two in each.
