Percy Bysshe Shelley was born at Field Place, west of Horsham, near Broadbridge Heath, and is commemorated by the Shelley Fountain, or 'Rising Universe' a large and intriguing fountain in the shape of a globe, in the town centre.
Horsham is home to the well-known (sixth form) College of Richard Collyer, founded in 1532, and known more commonly as 'Collyers', on Hurst Road.

 HORSHAM'S BEGINNINGS
Horsham, Australia is the centre of the Wimmera wheat and wool growing district.
The Wimmera district was previously known by the aboriginal word bogambilor, meaning 'place of flowers', for the site was covered with a dense scrub of wattles at the time.
Horsham was declared a town in 1932 when the population was 5000 and it became a city in its centenary year of 1949.

That the area of Warnham Parish to the south and east of the A24/A264 Horsham northern bypass be transferred to be part of the unparished area of Horsham town.
When the Horsham District was formed as a result of the 1974 reorganisation of local government, the area of the former Horsham Urban District Council (Horsham town), was unparished.
In November 1995, the District Council undertook a postal referendum of the unparished area to ascertain whether there was support for the establishment of statutory Parish Councils in Horsham town.
