 Spencer Walpole - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Spencer Horatio Walpole (1807-1898), three times home secretary under Edward Smith-Stanley, 14th Earl of Derby, and through his mother was grandson of Spencer Perceval, the Tory prime minister who was murdered in the House of Commons.
Spencer Walpole was educated at Eton, and from 1858 to 1867 was a clerk in the War Office, then becoming an inspector of fisheries.
In 1882 he was made lieutenant-governor of the Isle of Man, and from 1893 to 1899 he was secretary to the Post Office.

The Eton Poor Law Union was formed in 1835 and initially comprised the parishes of Burnham, Datchet, Denham, Dorney, Eton, Farnham Royal, Fulmer, Hedgerley, Hitcham, Horton, Iver, Langley Marish, Stoke Poges, Taplow, Upton cum Chalvey, Wexham and Wraysbury, all in Buckinghamshire.
In 1894 the newly created parishes of Eton Wick and Slough were added and these were joined in 1895 by the newly created parish of Gerrards Cross.

He was the fourth Provost of Eton College, which was dedicated "to the blessed Marie of Etone beside Wyndesore." This Provost was of celebrity in his day, and his merit was strenuously and successfully to oppose the union of Eton College with Windsor College, proposed by King Edward IV.
Sir John was advanced to the dignity of Earl of Bridgewater in 1617, and died in 1649, being ancestor of an illustrious race, since exalted to the rank of Duke of Bridgewater.
How this Horton property came to Sir John Egerton I do not find, as there are neither fines nor recoveries to indicate where he obtained it, whether by purchase, gift, or inheritance.

 Montague Rhodes James
James was the son of Herbert James (1822—1909), rector of Great Livermere in Suffolk (near Bury St Edmunds) and Mary Emily Horton (1818—1899) daughter of Admiral Joshua Sydney Horton.
Compiled from his teenage examination of manuscripts while an Eton student and later evaluation, they formed his reputation as a manuscripts scholar.
He died purportedly of renal failure in 1936 and is buried in the parish churchyard of Eton.

Five human leg bones displaying what could be signs of cannibalistic activity were unearthed at the site, which is now owned by Eton, a posh British secondary school favored by royals.

Robert Horton (1831-37) and his successors for the rest of the century reflected the new Victorian era.
Horton, only son of a baronet, product of Eton and Christ Church, Oxford, was a Liberal with relatives already in Ceylon in the civil service.
He removed legal disabilities on the country's Moors, Chettiars, and Catholics, promoted an independent press, and brought in budgetary surpluses (largely due to the pearl fisheries).
