 IMC India - HSTP to be closed
On 7-2-2002, the District Planning Committee of Hoshangabad decided to recommend to the state government the closure of the HSTP in Hoshangabad district.
During the last week of January we were told that Dr. Sitasharan Sharma, BJP MLA from Itarsi has written a letter to the District Planning Committee (DPC) of Hoshangabad questioning the relevance of HSTP and demanding that the programme be closed down.

In February, the Hoshangabad district planning committee (DPC) recommended to the State government that the programme be discontinued.
The much-awaited DPC meeting which was to review the decision on HSTP, was finally held on May 9, 2002, under the leadership of the new minister-in-charge of Hoshangabad district, Shri Harvansh Singh.

 THE HOSHANGABAD SCIENCE TEACHING PROGRAMME
The Hoshangabad Science Teaching Programme (HSTP) was started jointly in 1973 by two voluntary agencies, Friends Rural Centre and Kishore Bharati, in 16 government middle schools of the Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh.
Even assuming that there are genuine concerns about the programme in Hoshangabad, as discussed in the DPC, the government has no locus standi to extend the decision based on the Hoshangabad DPC's move to the other 14 districts.
Eklavya added that Hoshangabad did have an average record in terms of overall performance, and the performance level in science was in accordance with this average level of high school efficiency.
