 | | Louda (1998) has documented the expansion of this weevil's host range into two native Cirsium thistles in Nebraska, and she has shown through long term studies that seedling recruitment in populations of these non-targets is limited by seed predation (Louda & Potvin 1995). |
 | | In defense of those involved with this program, it should be noted that the broad host range of R. conicus was well known at the time of introduction (1969), but that in those days, impact to native plants (particularly native thistles!) was not considered to be a problem. |
 | | Host tests indicated that L. jacobaeae has a narrow host range, and we are unlikely to find it on plants other than a couple of very close relatives, also introductions from Europe. |
