The Killers: Hot Fuss: Pitchfork Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Hot Fuss floats boatloads of blasé lyrics about the pressures of being fabulous and the politics of fucking over an easily sippable blend of 80s and 90s British pop influences, rarely pausing to test the end product.
Hot Fuss opener "Jenny Was a Friend of Mine" establishes Flowers' admirable love for tones lost to rockers' rising fears of sounding too fruity.
Meanwhile, Fuss' UK version excises the brazenly contemporary raggedness of "Change Your Mind" for the astoundingly inane "Indie Rock 'n' Roll", a blaring joke of thick-chorded guitar and arrogant, pitch-corrected yowling that gives out cornholes to every unknown American group valiantly trying to find the cracks of creativity in its titular sound.

The Killers: Hot Fuss - PopMatters Music Review
Over the past few years, many young guitar bands, heavily influenced by early 1980s new wave and post punk, have been putting out good, sometimes great, material, be it The Strokes, Interpol, Hot Hot Heat, or The Rapture.
Despite their steadily growing popularity, those bands have yet to really connect with mainstream audiences, as there has yet to be the one smash single that critics and fans have been hoping for.
On their new album, Hot Fuss, The Killers come out sounding ready to take this subgenre to the next level, coming off as brash as Oasis did a decade ago.

The Killers are yet another indy and/or "THE" band that everyone started to rave about without stopping to even question what all this "Hot Fuss" was about.
Having read all the reviews of this album I thought it was about time someone actually criticised it, lets be honest it's far from a five star album, the majority is mindless filler, which you seem to find a lot of from indy bands.

I'm sure there are others around my age (32) that miss this type of music since we experienced it first hand.
The influences are apparent on "Hot Fuss"--The Cars, The Cure, The Smiths, The Church, The Cult, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, New Order, Bauhaus, Oasis, Blur, etc. But this is a good thing, because I'm tired of streamlined rap/hip-hop, grunge rock wannabes, and over-slick production on most top 40 songs in the past eight years.

The Killers - "Hot Fuss"   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
The Killers heavily use synthesizing effects on their songs, and front man Brandon Flowers does deliver with this shtick of new age theatricalness, but it doesn't matter, really.
The debut album from The Killers rightly titled "Hot Fuss" is a unique mix of soul-exploring songs sung by a band that seems to pay tribute to bands of the 80's like The Cars, INXS, Talking Heads and 90's alternative rock bands like Weezer, The Smashing Pumpkins, and yes...Oasis.
The Killers deliver all their songs with one formula: Meaningful songwriting, catchy melodies that you can dance too, synthesizing, and some funky bass lines, plus some bland drumming coming from the background (though on a few tracks it shines on).

On HOT FUSS, the shaggy-haired quartet matches 1960s garage attitude and Strokes-like vocal swagger with a danceable, bass guitar-driven sound that pays lavish tribute to '80s pop heroes Duran Duran and Simple Minds.
With "On Top," the combo adds the soaring, delay-laden guitars of U2 and the Fixx, while "Somebody Told Me" features a bouncy disco beat that recalls the Pet Shop Boys.
