Hot Space - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hot Space is an album by English rock band Queen, released in 1982.
The song would be performed on the band's accompanying "Hot Space" tour, albeit much faster and heavier, with real drums replacing the drum machine and guitars and keyboards replacing the horns.
The track would be performed live on the Hot Space tour in a rockier arrangement with actual real drums, replacing the drum machine plus bass guitar (replacing the bass synth) and a regular synthesizer solo.

About Solar - Solar Hot Water / Domestic Hot Water
Domestic hot water systems typically use solar energy to pre-heat the water that is incoming to a conventionally fueled heating tank.
In the winter, or during extended cloudy periods, the amount of hot water provided by the sun may be 30% or less.
The same set of solar collectors can be used to provide hot water for both space heating and space heating needs, although space heating will generally require a much greater collector area and storage capacity.

 SPACE-TALK - Hot Air Baloon
Hot air balloons wouldn't work for this application, since the hot air heater would get in the way of the rocket.
Hot air trapped in the balloon displaces colder air of equal volume out side of the balloon.
It gets to a point where the cold air you are displacing with hot air won't provide enough lift to support the balloon as the wieght of the volume you displace is higher than the weight of the balloon.

EERE: Solar Energy - Hot Water and Space Heating & Cooling   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
Solar hot water heaters use the sun to heat either water or a heat-transfer fluid in collectors.
Sometimes the plumbing from a solar heater connects to a house's existing water heater, which stays inactive as long as the water coming in is hot or hotter than the temperature setting on the indoor water heater.
If the fluid is not hot water, water is heated by passing it through a tube inside the storage tank full of hot fluid.

 MAD5: The Temperature of Space
The coffee stays hot, certainly not because the vacuum in the thermos bottle is hot, but because the bottle is carefully constructed to prevent the heat initially present in the coffee from leaking out into the colder room.
Crucial to any understanding of radiation (or temperature) in space, is the fact that all macroscopic bodies emit electromagnetic radiation constantly, depending on their temperature, essentially due to the constant bumping and rattling of the electric charges (mostly the electrons, in practice) which they contain.
This thermal radiation, which is emitted by everything, means that the actual temperature of a body in space is determined by the balance between the rate at which it loses energy due to its own heat radiation, and the rate at which heat is received from surrounding bodies.

Domestic Hot Water Tanks as Space Heating Appliances   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
Hot water tanks are less expensive to buy, install and maintain than boilers, so a study was commissioned to investigate the potential for using domestic hot water (DHW) tanks as both a space heating and domestic hot water appliance.
Two heating distribution loops circulate hot water from the DHW tank to fin coil units for space heating, and to house faucets and appliances for domestic use.
Historically, boilers were deemed the appliance of choice for space heating because of their higher efficiencies and ability to meet the typical heating requirements of the house.

Hot Space is equivalent to the nuetering of the once mighty Queen.
Overally, "Hot Space" isn't bad, I liked it a lot, although it has nothing to do with the earlier Queen efforts, especially the first 4 albums, that were progressive at its best.

Staying Power, the main extravagance of Hot Space, is probably the worst song in Queen's career (when I first listened to it I had to double check by looking at the label on the vinyl record to confirm that I was actually listening to Queen or if it was some sort of packaging mistake).
Body Language is a strange song and the fact of being one of the singles of Hot Space is even stranger; however, the song doesn't lack originality.

 Hot Space album review
The ‘hot and spacey’ horn arrangement is a masterful inclusion, and injects the composition with a further authentic funk vibrancy.
Perhaps this weakness is further highlighted, as ‘Hot Space’ is the immediate successor to the ‘Greatest Hits’ album, accentuating the inevitable comparison with the band’s phenomenal back catalogue.
There is no denying that ‘Hot Space’ is an unsatisfactory album for a band of Queen’s magnitude, but fortunately they seemed to have learned from this experience, and later albums would not suffer to the same degree.

In space there is virtually no medium for conduction or convection (actually, the tenuous plasma and gas that permeates space has an extrememly low heat capacity), so a body in space gains or loses heat by radiation.

Because Queen took the better part of 1981 off to work on the follow-up to their big 1980 hit The Game, fans were confident that the band's next release would follow in their winning tradition of classic albums.
Unlike its predecessor, Hot Space was an inconsistent effort, marred by unfocused songwriting and material that was simply not as strong as their earlier work.
Since they had just previously enjoyed a massive hit with the disco-fied "Another One Bites the Dust," Queen decided to dedicate the entire first side of the album to dance music, something that alienated their longtime rock fans.

Rolling Stone : Hot Space : Review
But on Hot Space, with the John Deacon/Roger Taylor rhythm section continuing to write funky songs and with a vocal contribution from David Bowie, Queen offers a bit more than bluster.
Shortly before Hot Space's release, Bowie removed his vocals from "Cool Cat" (Billy Squier was a last-minute substitute), but he remains front and center on "Under Pressure," a number on which Mercury manages to ape both Hall and Oates, while making Bowie sound positively soulful.
The rest of Hot Space is, at best, routinely competent and, at times, downright offensive.
