Her style and material has always been unique, eccentric even, but Hounds Of Love is probably the strongest mix of controlled musical experimentation and lyrical expression.
The track Hounds of Love is an absolute classic, the electric, ethereal Waking the Witch is hugely underrated, and Jig of Life, with its violins and strained lyrics is brilliant.
Hound of Love remains a great album, mixing pure pop with something darker - and much more interesting - all wrapped up in a sound that is still, twenty-years on, unequivocally surreal.

"Hounds of Love," Kate Bush's fifth album and the second she self-produced, strikes the perfect balance between arty weirdness and popular appeal.
More than a decade on, the impact of "Hounds of Love" can be seen in artists as diverse as Tori Amos, who employs Bush-like melodies and arrangements for confessional spectacle, and rapper/producer Tricky, whose multilayered studio effects and pervasive dread echo Bush's darker work.
If Bush's own recent efforts pale in comparison to this, the pinnacle of her canon, that only proves how truly innovative her '80s work was.

This can take some time: Hounds of Love is her first LP in three years, and the textural detail suggests she was working the whole time.
Since the album was planned as part of a video project, Bush's wide-screen composing and producing style and the vivid instrumental support make her Carrollian carols seem like a movie soundtrack that challenges you to provide the missing scenes.
But Hounds of Love requires a lyric sheet and a footnote appendix – the B side is a twenty-five-minute fantasy suite inspired by Celtic mythology, and the Oedipal puns of "Cloudbursting" (and maybe "Mother Stands for Comfort") refer to the writings of Wilhelm Reich's son Peter.

Kate Bush's strongest album to date marked her breakthrough into the American charts, and yielded a set of dazzling videos.

The Futureheads interpretation of Kate Bush's 'Hounds Of Love' harks back to the days when people like The Jam and The Specials were penning anthems that sounded just as vibrant on the terraces at your local football ground as they would on the pull in some grotty club on a Friday night.

Inspired by Emily Bronte's classic novel, Bush had created a hauntingly original piece, complete with an ethereal, almost demented, vocal that brilliantly captured the obsessive love of the novel's heroine, and her namesake, Cathy.
It was no surprise when the single rapidly reached number 1 in the UK and established Bush in Europe.
The chart-topping album Hounds Of Love soon followed and was greeted with an acclaim that dwarfed all her previous accolades and efforts.
