Hounslow Town tube station - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hounslow Town station was built in early 1883 at the western terminus of the Hounslow and Metropolitan Railway Company's line from Acton to Hounslow.
In 1886 a new station on the Hounslow Barracks line called Heston-Hounslow was opened and the service to Hounslow Town was withdrawn.
A year later a single-line extension was opened from Lampton Junction to Hounslow Barracks (renamed Hounslow West from 1st December 1925); the line to Hounslow Town was thereby left on a short south-facing spur, connected by a triangle junction to the main line.

Barratt's west London division, which is, itself, based in Hounslow town centre, has centred a great deal of its schemes around the borough of Hounslow since it was established almost eight years ago - the new schemes will bring the total number of homes in the borough built by Barratt to almost 4,000.
The £150 million Hounslow town centre scheme, agreed this month, will be undertaken with Blenheim Norwest, on a 17-acre site on the north side of Hounslow High Street.
LUXURY housing developer, Barratt West London, last week released images of the revamped town centre projects for Hounslow and Feltham, in which it will provide almost 1,000 new homes, worth over an estimated £300m.

During the war, the sub-surface accommodation at the station was used by the Railway Executive Committee and by Churchill and the War Cabinet.
The station is still visible from passing trains and there is a turn back siding still in use at the station.

London Underground History - Cut and Cover Disused Stations
Some stations also changed names when two original stations were merged into one, something that was relatively common in the early days when the lines were run by different competitive companies where their stations were very close to each other - but bore different names.
For most stations, the earlier identities have been completely erased and the only way to discover their old names are through historical documents such as old maps.
Other stations leave evidence that can prove puzzling to the modern traveler, such as Arsenal, where the original Gillespie Road name can clearly be seen fired into the tile pattern on the platforms.

Tube Spotting - Celebrities on the London Underground
It features the tube in a big way, with weird characters who live in a strange underground world and some of them are even named after tube stations.
The station closed in 1994 and the Aldwych is now a happening venue for all sorts of showbiz parties, raves like underLondonground and video shoots.
For he now knows that underneath the London streets, deep in the abandoned stations that dot the tubes and in the most obscure sewer tunnels lies an underground culture that insists on anonymity from the surface world.

 rodcorp: Mapping, transport, tube
As tube stations are often underground and aren't 24-hour or accessibility usable, look at adding a piece of street furniture.
My work is to keep the eaters' tubes (which convey the material up to the city, processing and rendering it on the way) and the gastropod (the parts that do the eating) clean and in good working order.
They've travelled there by car or bus via the motorways and roads, by train or tube, by plane, and are surprised to find that the terminal has become a terminus, here at the quiet limit of the world.

 London's Abandoned Tube Stations
There are other stations on London Underground that have been abandoned but due to a lack of substantive remains or photographic evidence available, they are not featured on this website:
It was originally just a means of doing something constructive with a box of old tube photos re-discovered during a clean out.
They and many other books of historical interest are available from the bookshop at the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden, which should be the first port of call for anyone wanting further information about London's abandoned stations.

As stated by the previous reviewer there is a bus shuttle that runs from the tube station gate 4 for free.
You can take the underground to the station right before Hatton Cross which is Hounslow West and there is a grocery store and KFC right across from that station.
I mean you really dont want to have to cart your cases into town on the tube only to bring them out again.

There are a few local train stations in and around the town, as well as a reasonably decent bus service, although the tube stops tend to be spread quite far and wide.
There are three tube stations around Hounslow, the two closest to Isleworth being Hounslow East and Hounslow Central (both Piccadilly line).
There are a few tubes spread over a large distance, but none of them are in Isleworth itself.

Apart from the poor signage from the tube station pointing out it's exact location the site is excellently presented.
A one-off free newspaper is being put together to distribute around the Canning Town and Custom House area in the first week of September in order to inform people about the DSEi arms fair taking place on the 13th to 16th and the protests being planned around that period to oppose it.

 favourite tube stations... - URBANEVENTS
The main rule, is that there are no rules, you kind of post the next tube station that comes to mind, provided you can justify your move using panel-game jargon to baffle and confound the other players into admitting you've trumped their move, or by simply posting it with enough conviction.
posted 03 October 2003 03:21 PM my favourite tube station is southwark - nice and space age on the outside.
Today, the station is being maintained by London Underground mainly as a museum piece, film set and the ticket hall is frequently rented out for art exhibitions, book launches, private parties and club nights.
