House System at the California Institute of Technology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The House System is the basis of undergraduate student residence at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).
Caltech's unique House system is modeled after the residential college system of Oxford and Cambridge in England, and is also similar to the fictional houses of Hogwarts in Harry Potter.
The crest and motto derive from the noble House of Fleming of Biggar, South Lanarkshire, Scotland.

The Houses combine elements of dormitories and fraternities - in fact, the original fraternities were broken up and assigned to Houses wholesale after they were built.
As a result, each house has its own character which is maintained over the years (although there have been some drastic changes in the past).
Blacker, Dabney, Fleming, and Ricketts are the "South Houses", and were built in the 1920's in a Spanish style.

If the publisher restricts access in that release, say to the Caltech community, you may want to have 2 versions of your thesis or dissertation--one with and one without the chapter (e.g., published article) in question.

Indeed, the plan built on the strengths of the theme houses by creating a residential college system in which all students would be able to benefit from the kind of small, close-knit community that the theme houses had pioneered.
The system of supervisions is politically embattled, and susceptible to some of the same social pressures as exist in an American university.
Cambridge and Caltech have different histories and accomplish this in different ways -- at Cambridge a university community was built on top of collegiate communities, whereas at CalTech the house system was coeval wth the notion of a university community.

Particularly noteworthy in Sharp's revamping of the Caltech earth sciences was his support of planetary science as a vehicle for extending geological research to the other planets, notably Mars, and for his contributions to the creation of the field of geochemistry.
The latter discipline was especially important in the interpretation of lunar samples that began at Caltech in 1970.
A native of Oxnard, California, Sharp first came to Caltech as an undergraduate in 1930, where he was a star quarterback in the days when the institute was still a competitive force in Southern California football.

But the criticism has put Oregon's system under an unflattering scrutiny that could affect its standing in the courts and in a future Congress if the state suffers any serious problems with vote fraud.
Critics miss the value of mail voting in increasing turnout, he said, and in giving people time in the privacy of their homes to work through the state's long ballots.

Ehlers, chairman of the House Science Committee’s Environment, Technology, and Standards Subcommittee, with Ranking Member James Barcia, D-Bay City, authored H.R. 2275, the Voting Technology Standards Act, to establish standards for voting machines.
The bill was prompted by the problems of the 2000 Presidential elections and a report from Caltech and MIT that found that because of substandard voting equipment and confusing ballots that up to 2 million votes cast were not counted properly.
As a result of negotiations with the House Administration Committee, the provisions of Congressman Ehlers’ bill to improve voting technology (H.R. 2275) have been incorporated into the Help America Vote Act of 2001 (H.R 3295).

Brown and his team of astronomers, using Caltech's Palomar Observatory, found Sedna in November as part of an ongoing three-year outer solar system project.
Many astronomers say Pluto, with a diameter of just under 1,500 miles (2,300 kilometers), is too small to be a termed a planet and is just one of many minor objects in the outer reaches of the solar system.
But those who argue Pluto is a planet are likely to push the assertion for Sedna to become the 10th planet in the solar system.
