  House of Holstein-Gottorp
The House of Holstein-Gottorp, a branch of the Oldenburg dynasty, rose to the Swedish throne with King Adolf Frederick in 1751.
He was elected crown prince on June 23, 1743 as a Swedish concession to the Russian Tsar, a strategy for achieving an acceptable peace after the disastrous war of the same year.
Adolf Frederick's grandson Gustav IV Adolf was deposed in 1809 following the loss of Finland, and the remaining parts of the dynasty became extinct with the death of his uncle Charles XIII in 1818.

Royal house names in Europe are taken from the father; in cases where a Queen regnant marries a prince of another house, their children (and therefore subsequent monarchs) will be of a different house.
This occurred with the death of Queen Anne of the House of Stuart, who was succeeded by a prince of the House of Hanover invited to assume the throne.
However, in accordance with house inheritance laws as seen above, all of the children of Queen Elizabeth are of the house of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, as that is the house of The Duke of Edinburgh (born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark), and the throne will pass to that house upon the Queen Elizabeth's death.
