House of Kalākaua - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The House of Kalākaua, or the Kalākaua Dynasty, was the reigning family of the Kingdom of Hawai'i between the assumption of David Kalākaua to the throne in 1874 and the overthrow of Lili'uokalani in 1893.
The most important events during the reign of the House of Kalakaua were the promulgation of the Bayonet Constitution and the overthrow of the kingdom by the Committee of Safety led by former Interior Minister Lorrin A. Thurston.
With the deposition of queen Lili'uokalani in 1893 the House of Kalakaua ceased to reign, and the death of the Princess Victoria Kaiulani in 1899 meant the loss of the last direct heir of the siblings of the reigning monarchs of House of Kalakaua.

U.S. House race draws Kawananakoa back into politics - The Honolulu Advertiser - Hawaii's Newspaper
Quentin Kawananakoa, a former state representative and heir to the Campbell Estate fortune, thought politics was behind him after his surprise withdrawal from the Republican primary for U.S. House eight years ago for health reasons.
Kawananakoa said among the issues he will discuss during the campaign is greater self-sufficiency for Hawaiians, including a Native Hawaiian federal recognition bill that would give Hawaiians the right to form their own government and could protect Hawaiian-only programs from legal challenges.
Kawananakoa, a former House minority leader, said he expects questions from voters about his August 1998 decision to drop out of the Republican primary for the 1st Congressional District in urban Honolulu a month before the election.

 Hawaii Reporter: Hawaii Reporter
A late-August Kawananakoa campaign mailer is titled: “How Quentin Kawananakoa and Bob Hogue chose to handle the largest tax increase in Hawaii’s history.” Inside it details the response of the two candidates to two different tax increases, not one.
Kawananakoa accuses Hogue of making insufficient effort by merely voting against Hawaii legislative Democrats’ 2005 enactment of a bill allowing counties to raise their General Excise Tax (GET) rates by 0.5%.
Perhaps the reason Kawananakoa chooses to ignore his own efforts against the 2005 tax increase is that there is no record of any effort on his part as a private citizen.

A collateral branch of the reigning House of Kalākaua (from Kauai island) and descendants of e.g chiefs of Waimea (on Hawaii island), the dynastic line was established by Prince David Kawananakoa who was declared to be in the line of royal succession through a proclamation of King David Kalākaua.
