TheMovieBoy Review - House of Wax (2005)
"House of Wax," a reinvisioning of the 1953 Vincent Price B-movie, borrows the general idea behind that film—a madman who turns his victims into wax figures for his ghastly museum—to concoct an affectionate throwback to the slasher genre of the '80s and '90s, albeit one smarter, more stylish, and eerier than most.
Whereas most slasher films fall apart when dealing with their characters and bringing their stories to a conclusion, "House of Wax" features people who may just turn out to be victims, but seem genuine as a group of college-aged friends who are unaware of the danger lurking just around the corner.
"House of Wax" is the first unequivocally good—and often downright great—popcorn entertainment of the still-early summer movie season, and the most satisfying release from Robert Zemeckis' Dark Castle horror label, to date.

 HOUSE OF WAX
Quite possibly the finest 3-D movie ever made, and certainly one of the most entertaining horror movies from the 1950's, HOUSE OF WAX still stands up today as a classic slice of scary cinema.
Besides being great fun, HOUSE OF WAX has its fair share of sexual innuendo as well, with lovely ladies squeezed tight into corsets, and the "can~can" dance scene, where an array of shapely legs and bottoms kick and thrust right out of the screen.
HOUSE OF WAX is about as entertaining as films can get, and even people who normally aren't thrilled by horror genre flix are pleased with it.

House of Wax Movie Review at Hollywood Video
Based on 1953's House of Wax, this remake follows a group of college students whose road trip leads them to a rural town inhabited by the wax-coated corpses of unlucky visitors.
And that's the problem with House of Wax: in the long lags between the gory and lascivious parts (and there are plenty of both) this is just about the dullest scary movie ever made.
Based very, very loosely on a 1953 movie of the same name, House of Wax begins with a bunch of college students from somewhere in Florida—we know that because of their license plate—headed somewhere in Louisiana to watch a Big Football Game.

The movie has pacing problems, introduces us to characters that have zero personality (thankfully, most of them get it by the end of the movie), and offers up cheap laughs (including repeated scenes in which Paris Hilton is caught on video taped making out with her boyfriend).
House of Wax really isn't a very good movie but there was enough visual bravado and horrific carnage in the final act to make this more effective than The Amityville Horror.
A movie I think is going to be bad but still want to see that ended up be fun to watch all the while being very cheesy and clichéd try and figure that one out.

It is one thing to bring an older film up to date (and the new 'House of Wax' certainly does that, seamlessly integrating mobile phones and GPS navigation into its plotting), but here it is also possible to see the different horror trends of the intervening decades layered on top of one another.

This was supposed to be a horror movie, and it is quite poor one as horror.
It starts off with a theme that many other horrors movies have used; a group of teenaged friends have car trouble in the middle of nowhere, half of the friends stay at the car and the other half go to a nearby "deserted" town in search of help.

A remake of the 1933 film Mystery of the Wax Museum, this entertaining Gothic shocker casts Price as a sculptor of wax figures; his unwilling victims--er, "models"--lend their bodies to his lifelike depictions of Marie Antoinette and Joan of Arc.
The film was one of the top 10 moneymakers of its year, thanks in part to the 3-D gimmick, which explains why so many things are aimed at the camera (why else would the paddleball man be there?).
