The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment is a ceremonial regiment of the British Army.
It consists of one squadron from each regiment of the Household Cavalry, the Life Guards and the Blues and Royals.
This is three-quarters of a mile from Buckingham Palace, close enough for the officers and men of the Household Cavalry to be available to respond speedily to any emergency at the Palace.

 The Arab Legion
In April 1941, the Arab Legion Mechanised Regiment was assigned to the force and assembled in the desert at the Iraq Petroleum Company’s oil pipeline pumping station known as H4 (the pipeline ran from the oil fields in Iraq, through Trans-Jordan to the port of Haifa in Palestine).
The Arab Legion Mechanised Regiment left patrols and garrisons at H4 and Rutbah and the 250 remaining men joined a flying column, ‘Kingcol’, which was to go on ahead of the main force to relieve the RAF garrison at Habbaniya.
The Household Cavalry provided the rearguard for the force during the advance and was attacked by German Messerschmitt fighters.

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, as part of the new Household Cavalry Regiment, will continue to consist of one squadron from each cap badge, and its duties will continue as they are now.
The two regiments have shown that they can successfully work together in the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, and there is no reason why that same spirit cannot be carried through to the new combined Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment.
As far as the Household Cavalry is concerned, we do accept that some action is needed to increase proportionally the number of soldiers that are mounted trained, and to that end, we are establishing a training wing at Windsor.

Details have now been confirmed for the Household Cavalry Regiment's Freedom of Entry march through Windsor on Saturday March 19.
The Household Cavalry was granted the Freedom of Entry to the Royal Borough on May 8 1965 at a ceremony in the Home Park.  It exercised its freedom to march for the first time in December 1997 an occasion which also included the presentation of campaign medals to D Squadron following a tour in Bosnia.
Freedoms may be offered by cities and boroughs, under the terms of Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972.  They are offered to regiments which have had long-standing associations with the city or town, marked either by time or by an historic event.
