Housekeeping is a novel written by Pulitzer Prize winning author Marilynne Robinson.
Ruth and her sister Lucille are raised by a succession of relatives in the fictional town of Fingerbone, Idaho (some details similar to Robinson's hometown, Sandpoint, Idaho).
The novel alludes to housekeeping, not in the domestic cleaning sense, but in the ephemeral task of keeping a spiritual home for one's self and one's family.

 Housekeeping Department
The Housekeeping Department of North Carolina Baptist Hospital is made up of approximately 280 employees who clean 2.4 million square feet of space each day, with some areas being cleaned more than once per day.
It hasn't been too many years ago, when all you needed to know to be a housekeeper, janitor or maid, was to be able to clean a bathroom or mop a floor.
Today, each housekeeper must be trained and pass competency assessments in bloodborne pathogens, infection control techniques, personal protective equipment, fire and disaster responsibilities, in addition to their normal cleaning processes and chemicals they use.

Housekeeping is traditionally and stereotypically the preserve of women, and it is women who dominate this wonderful, award-winning novel.
Housekeeping is an exceptional novel, magnificent in it's reach, despite it's localised narrative.

illiam H. Burke suggests that transience in Marilynne Robinson’s Housekeeping is a type of pilgrimage, and that “the rigors and self-denials of the transient life are necessary spiritual conditioning for the valued crossing from the experience of a world of loss and fragmentation to the perception of a world that is whole and complete” (717).
Since she considers “accumulation to be the essence of housekeeping” she begins collections of newspapers, magazines, brown paper bags, and tin cans, but she cannot abandon her transient habits (180).
