  Houses of the Oireachtas
The National Parliament (Oireachtas) consists of the President and two Houses: Dáil Éireann (House of Representatives) and Seanad Éireann (the Senate) whose functions and powers derive from the Constitution of Ireland enacted by the People on 1st July, 1937.The Houses of the Oireachtas are situated at Leinster House, Dublin.
However, Dáil Éireann is the House from which the Government (the Executive) is formed and to which it is responsible.
The proceedings of the Houses and parliamentary committees are televised.

Oireachtas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Irish Parliament consisted of the King of Ireland, a House of the Lords and a House of Commons.
The Parliament of Southern Ireland was formally abolished in 1922, with the establishment of the Oireachtas under the Constitution of the Irish Free State.
The Oireachtas of the Irish Free State consisted officially of the King and two houses, named, as their successors would be, Dáil Éireann (described, in this case, as a 'Chamber of Deputies') and Seanad Éireann.

Second Reading of the Houses of the Oireachtas Commission Bill, 2002 - Department of Finance - Government of Ireland
Oireachtas members, or groups of members, frequently state that they are not given the back up facilities, including staff, that they need to do their work.
The "Houses of the Oireachtas Commission" is a bit of a mouthful for ordinary conversation but there are times when we have to go for precision and the title of this body is one of them.
The essence of this Bill is that it provides for the Houses of the Oireachtas to be headed up by a Commission composed, with the exception of the Secretary General, of members of this House and the Seanad, endowing them with an enhanced version of the powers vested in Ministers who have charge of Departments.

It is not in issue that the Houses of the Oireachtas have the right to inform themselves on matters relevant to their parliamentary functions and to conduct, or authorise committees of the Oireachtas to conduct, inquiries for that purpose.
The Houses of the Oireachtas derive their authority and standing from the Constitution as the core elements of the Oireachtas as an institution.
Collectively the Houses may keep themselves informed by recourse to similar sources of information and it is not uncommon for Ministers to place in the library of the Houses of the Oireachtas the reports of experts or inquiries relevant to legislation being introduced.

The Commissioner decided to vary the decision of the Office of the Houses of the Oireachtas and to direct that the identities of the individual claimants in the records already released be disclosed to the requester.
Members of the Oireachtas are in a more vulnerable category than Ministers or local authority members and the fact that release of the expenses records of the latter may not have received adverse publicity does not invalidate the points made by the Office against disclosure.
However, I assume that the point that is being made is that the Oireachtas saw fit to exclude specifically from the scope of the definition of personal information, details of the terms and conditions subject to which an individual holds office as a director or as a member of staff of a public body.

To compel his attendance at the Bar of the House to be questioned it was ordered and resolved by the House that the plaintiff should be sent for and brought before the House in the custody of the Serjeant at Arms and that the Speaker should issue his warrant accordingly.
Whether such a power in the Houses of the Oireachtas is a good thing or a bad thing is a policy issue to be determined by the legislature or by the people.
