Houston County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia.
Explosive growth in the county is evident, with the Census 2005 estimates showing a population of 126,163.
In the county the population was spread out with 28.20% under the age of 18, 9.50% from 18 to 24, 31.80% from 25 to 44, 21.30% from 45 to 64, and 9.30% who were 65 years of age or older.

Houston County was carved from the wilderness by an act of the state legislature as one of five huge counties.
County sent its militias to engage both the Seminoles in Florida and the Creeks in Alabama in 1836, and to fight in the Civil War (1861-65), the Spanish-American War (1898), and World War I (1917-18).
In 1875 the development of the Elberta peach brought a viable new industry to the county; by 1889 the Georgia Department of Agriculture concluded that Houston was the largest peach-growing county in the United States.

One of the articles states that Intel selected that county because of the IT and military contractors located there and the county is looking to stimulate growth....thus share in the $2M cost.
