At the time it was the worst case of serial murder (in terms of number of victims) in the U.S., exceeding the twenty-five slayings attributed to Juan Corona from California.
The Houston Mass Murders, as they became known, hit the headlines all over the world, and even the Pope commented on the atrocious nature of the crimes and offered sympathy to relatives of those who had died.
Henley was charged with the murders of six of the boys, and in 1974, he was convicted and sentenced to six 99-year terms of imprisonment.

The city to be was named after Sam Houston, the hero of San Jacinto, whom the Allen brothers admired and anticipated to be the first President of the Republic of Texas.
In 1963, the University of Houston ended its status as a private institution and became a state university by entering into the Texas State System of Higher Education after a long battle with opponents from other state universities blocking the change.
In 2002, the University of Houston celebrated its 75th anniversary with an enrollment of 34,443 that fall semester.

Wayne Henley had to turn himself in for the murder of "Candy Man" Dean Corll "in self-defense" before the police would begin to realize what had been right under their noses for almost a decade.
The Manson murders were still in the news, having taken place in 1969.
In 1983 Henry Lee Lucas was arrested and sentenced to death for multiple murders, and was granted clemency by Governor George W. Bush in Texas, the state with the highest rate of executions in the country.

Dean Corll, a gay rapist and predator was responsible for the deaths of between 20-30 boys in the Houston area (a Houston neighborhood called "The Heights" was his major hunting grounds) during the early 1970s.
Corll was a Houston based candy maker who, along with a pair of teenage accomplises murdered nearly 30 boys (and probably many more) in a depressed Houston neighborhood known, ironically, as the Heights.
It was in the early 1970s when young pubescent boys began to disappear in and around Houston Texas and parents began to go mad with worry and grief.

The mass murders of 25 or 30 young boys.
It was so awful, that he couldn't sleep, and when he did, he had nightmares, 'cause he was at the scene there near the Astro Dome and the hot wx, it was awful.
Apparently he must have gotten the job, because one of his old licenses shows he got service with the Houston station from June to October 1934, then KABC beginning in January of 1936.

The second one is a project very personal to me, because it tells the story of victims of the Houston Mass Murders in 1972-73, when Dean Corll and Elmer Wayne Henley kidnapped and killed 27 or more boys.
This film will tell the story of what the families of the victims went through when their children went missing and they tried to get local law enforcement authorities to help locate them.
