Fylkesplanens prognoser antyder en fortsettelse av veksten i hovedstadsregionen, og en gjennomsnittlig årlig vekst for Akershuskommunene på i overkant av 1 %.
Også veksten i sysselsetting ventes vesentlig større i hovedstadsregionen enn det regionens andel av landets befolkning skulle tilsi.
Fylkesplanen for Akershus påpeker en rekke områder hvor hovedstadsregionen har et særskilt ansvar i en nasjonal politikk for næringsutvikling.

The analysis was based on an international benchmarking study of seven selected clusters in the metropolitan area compared with 28 competence clusters from all over the world.
