Rockers the Supersuckers chose to move to Seattle in 1989 from Tuscan, Ariz., as the result of a coin toss.
Since relocating to Seattle in 1989, the band has suffered drug addiction, big-label mischief and personnel shifts, all in a state of purgatory – a grunge-era Seattle band that missed the explosion of the '90s, but is bigger than your average local band.
For instance, instead of recording and writing music until the band was happy with a full-length release, it's opted to release EPs and singles, with the intention of packaging them as a proper full-length release when the time is appropriate.

This means that the drums slam and the guitars lurch and the vocals yowl.
I will not be the first to say that this is as fine as bar band music gets, which may be reason enough for some of you to go ahead and agree: This is the Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World.
The Supersuckers' devil-worshippin', booze-swillin', drug-stabbin' point of view strikes a chord, let us say, with a certain class of knuckle-dragging nitwits who miss the irony.

 The Supersuckers Album Reviews
Embracing the belief that a band’s creative course is defined by its limitations, the Supersuckers basically refused to grow up and turned in another beer-soaked party album with a dual guitar assault, thundering drums and a whole lotta nonsense as key ingredients.
The band not only delves into a style and tradition that has been explored for more than half a century, but they manage to come up with material completely their own and melodies that stick.
Of course Eddie Spaghetti doesn't forget to mention that the audience is witnessing the greatest rock 'n' roll band in the world in action (and yes, he still gets away with it) and yes, the devil's horns and victorious grins are there, but occasionally they're also going through the motions.

 AMZ - November, 1999 - The Supersuckers
The "Supersuckers" have been known to lean toward a slightly countrified approach ("Dead in the Water" shows off this side of the "Supersuckers," complete with that lap-slide country guitar), but this album is mostly pure rock.
Serving as a compilation of the "Supersuckers" stronger material, this disk is an excellent acquisition and checklist against their music.
It's a rock that encompasses the dirty realness of classic rock, upping the ante with some punkish energy and filtered through a good ol' boy "let's turn them amps up to 10 and rip it up" mentality.

Their songs are raucous, over-the-top celebrations of all the attendant evils of rock and roll: sex, booze, drugs, Satan, and whatever other vices the band could think of, all glorified with tongue planted firmly in cheek.
Their style of Rock and Roll with hints of punk, country, Rock-A-Billy, and grunge is unique.
The title track became a minor hit, and the album became their first to chart in the Top 200.

The Supersuckers were formed in Tucson, AZ, in 1988 by high-school friends Eddie Spaghetti (born Edward Carlyle Daly III, bass, vocals), Ron Heathman (guitar), Dan "Thunder" Bolton (guitar), Dancing Eagle (born Dan Seigal, drums), and Eric Martin (lead vocals).
Shortening their name to the Supersuckers, the band recorded singles for several indie labels, including eMpTy, Sympathy for the Record Industry, and Lucky; these were collected on the eMpTy compilation The Songs All Sound the Same, which became the band's first CD release in 1992.

 BlueBeat.com - Artist: The Supersuckers
Something of an anomaly on the Sub Pop roster, the Supersuckers bore a limited surface resemblance to grunge, but they were a party band at heart, donning cowboy hats and kicking out a gleefully trashy brand of throttling, rockabilly-flavored garage punk.
Their lyrics were a raucous, over-the-top celebration of all the attendant evils of rock and roll -- sex, booze, drugs, Satan, and whatever other vices the band could think of, all glorified with tongue planted firmly in cheek.
Produced by the Butthole Surfers' Paul Leary, the album was noticeably different from the Supersuckers' usual pedal-to-the-metal roar, owing to Heathman's absence, despite some worthy additions to the group's catalog (like "Born With a Tail").

That's because The Supersuckers are indeed one of the more shit-hot rock bands to come down the pike in a long time.
In the past there were hurdles such as guitarist Ron Heathman's reputed hiatus in the clink, forcing the band to record 1995's The Sacrilicious Sounds of the Supersuckers album with Rick Sims from the Didjits.

Shot through the heart of rock'n'roll | MetaFilter
Rock albums still sell (see: Linkin Park, Nickelback, etc.), just, by and large, not good rock albums, but the history of modern music--starting, say, in the 50's--is littered with "big" acts who don't have a great deal of talent, unless you count image as talent.
I think that the main difference between these genres and Rock and Roll is that people who love swing, jazz, country, and baroque (or in my case, just about anything that becomes ear chewing gum) don't cry out for a savior every time the promoters decide to push the next new thing on radio.

We can only pray that someday America will awaken from its cultural slumber and realize that the Supersuckers and Rocket From the Crypt were two of the best yet criminally underrated rock bands of the 1990s (and early 00s).

By way of backing up both, I'd go so far as to say that the latter, released in 1999, was indeed one of the greatest hard-rock albums of the '90s, the record on which the Supersuckers truly found their calling.
Unfortunately for the rest of the world, this was also about the time that the Supersuckers became a true cult band.
