This is the easiest most fool proof method for making your first homebrewed few mini-batches of biodiesel.
As an added bonus, the only "specialized" equipment required is a thermometer, accurate scales to measure out NaOH (in a pinch a metric teaspoon measure will work), and something to measure out 250 ml of methanol and 1 litre of vegetable oil.
Be sure to notice that you can see a very definite, slowly sinking line towards the top of the Biodiesel as the glycerol slowly settles.

 Biodiesel
Biodiesel (or biofuel) is the name for a variety of ester-based fuels (fatty esters) generally defined as the monoalkyl esters made from vegetable oils, such as soybean oil, canola or hemp oil, or sometimes from animal fats through a simple transesterification process.
The supernatant is biodiesel and contains a mixture of methylated fatty acids and methanol, the catalyst remaining dissolved in the glycerol fraction.
Biodiesel can be used in its pure form but many require certain engine modifications to avoid maintenance and performance problems.

Make sure all parts of the blender are clean and dry and that the blender components are tightly fitted.
The biodiesel varies somewhat in colour according to the oil used (and so does the by-product layer at the bottom) but usually it's pale and yellowish (used-oil biodiesel can be darker and more amber).

Biodiesel emulsions occur most commonly when fuel with a lot of soap in it is washed to vigorously.
If you have a fairly minor emulsion, the best policy is to let the biodiesel sit for a few minutes or several hours to see if the emulsion breaks on it's own.
For that reason it is a good idea to save some glycerin you have drained off previous biodiesel batches, in case of a serious emulsion.
