  Howard Chaykin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Howard V. Chaykin (born 1950) is an American comic book writer and artist famous for his innovative storytelling and sometimes controversial material.
Howard Chaykin began his career in comics as an assistant to such artists as Gil Kane and Neal Adams before going solo.
Chaykin also protested DC's proposed system of labelling comics for violent or sexual content: seeing this as censorship, Chaykin (along with Alan Moore and Frank Miller) boycotted DC and refused to work for the company.

Chaykin's main influences are the late 19th and early 20th century book illustrators Howard Pyle and Charles Robinson and little of his work has been for the super-hero genre.
Chaykin produced a number of projects for the ''Heavy Metal'' and ''Star Reach'' anthology magazines including the space opera hero Cody Starbuck that revealed an interest in sexually explicit material as well as graphic violence.
Chaykin has also been active in television since the 1980s, acting as Executive Script Consultant for ''The Flash'' and ''Viper'', and has most recently acted as head writer on ''Mutant X''.

Now, I didn't know how long Chaykin had been in the industry before Black Kiss, but it was obvious from the get-go, the man knew what he was doing.
Chaykin's Shadow books came out before Black Kiss, and I was excited as hell to have found something of his that was pre-Kiss.
Both were taken from original series and transformed into beautifully rendered and frightening tales that stemmed from Chaykin's fascination of science fiction, fantasy, history and sex.

Howard Chaykin was the head writer for the first season of Mutant X. According to Tribune Entertainment's executive producer, Seth Howard, Chaykin left Mutant X as season two was being produced, due to "creative differences".
It was 2000, and Chaykin had just come to a parting of the ways with his last television show, the syndicated Mutant X. "It was a great job, a good ride.

Chaykin working within the Code and, as Jeff Rovin’s article for The Comics Journal #114 proves, working for a very conservative publisher.
Chaykin’s line here is a lot looser than we usually see, even looser than on Black Kiss or Challengers of the Unknown (the issue that came out this week as great).
Chaykin did create the character of Dominic Fortune that appeared in various Marvel books and is seen as his way to continue working on The Scorpion character.

 Comics2Film: Power & Glory
A source with connections at Disney tells Comics2Film that plans for a movie version of Howard Chaykin's satirical Power and Glory may be set aside in favor of another superhero project.
Although Chaykin is not directly involved with the production he is in regular communication with the producer.
One revelation is that, although Chaykin is an experienced screenwriter, he will not be writing a script for this movie.
