Howard Roger Garis, (25 April 1873–6 November 1962), a native of Binghamton, New York, was an American author, most famous for his children's book series Uncle Wiggily and the Bobbsey Twins.
Although famous under his own name for the Uncle Wiggily books, which starred Uncle Wiggily Longears, an elderly bunny gentleman, Garis was also an extremely prolific ghostwriter, writing for the Stratemeyer Syndicate.
His wife, Lilian Garis, as well as their children, were also writers for Stratemeyer.

Garis stopped writing for the Syndicate around 1933 after a series of disagreements about how much he would contribute to the direction of the Syndicate in 1932.
Garis even wrote a Bobbsey Twins volume in 1948 and Lilian wrote a story which apparently was not published in that same year.
Howard Garis wrote many of the early Bobbsey Twins books as well as books in the Great Marvel series (as Roy Rockwood), Baseball Joe series (as Lester Chadwick), and seemingly countless others.

Professor Jonkin's Cannibal Plant by Howard R. Garis
Uncle Wiggily, however, was not the only writing that Garis did during the course of his career and in the years just after his marriage in 1900, he produced a remarkable amount of fiction.
The second hand descriptions of the stories suggest that their style is similar to this first story: a tale told in a straightforward, simple and humorous style that is quite similar in tone to the later Uncle Wiggily stories.
One possiblity is that Garis, a fast writer, may have written all the stories in a couple of sittings, sold the entire batch to Argosy, and moved on to another project without looking back.

Written by Howard Garis, who'd penned the original six volumes, & it's a good guess he was called back to the series because the publisher was too fond of the series to let it die even though the sales had not justified its furtherance.
