Howarth Howie Morenz also nicknamed the Mitchell Meteor (June 21, 1902-March 8, 1937 in Mitchell, Ontario, Canada) was a professional ice hockey player in the National Hockey League.
Howie Morenz was a three-time winner of the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league's most valuable player.
Howie Morenz is interred in the Mount Royal Cemetery in Montreal, Quebec.

Howie Morenz was one of the NHL's superstars of the 1930s.
Morenz was carried off the ice on a stretcher to a hospital, where he died, not because of the leg injury, but because of his family, friends, and a legion of fans, all wanting to wish him well.
Morenz died on March 8 the same year, from, as teammate Aurel Joliat put it, "a broken heart" (Morenz suffered a heart attack the night before).

Howie saw action in only 19 games for the Rangers and with his former Montreal Canadiens having a tough time, he was brought back once more to try and breath some life into the ailing club when on September 1, 1936 he was traded back from the Rangers for cash.
Howie must have known it was bad, because while he was in the hospital he said to his Aurel Joliat his linemate and friend, that he would watch the Canadiens "from up there", looking towards the heavens.
Howie's casket was at center ice of the Montreal Forum where over 10,000 people turned out for his funeral and thousands more lined the streets of the funeral procession to pay their final respects to one of hockey's most talented performers.

In 1923, Morenz was offered a place on the Montreal Canadiens and, in his very first season there, he finished eighth in league scoring and helped the team win a Stanley Cup.
Howie Morenz was one of the first twelve men inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1945 and he was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 1955.

HOWIE MORENZ and his Montreal Canadiens had won two consecutive Stanley Cups going into the 1931-32 season, and fans and critics alike expected that number to bloat to three by the end of the season.
Montreal again finished first, their second straight season to do so, and MORENZ finished third in league scoring with 49 points.
It would be the last year MORENZ would score 20 or more goals in a season; a feat he accomplished seven times in his 14 NHL seasons.
