Howth (Binn Éadair in Irish) is an affluent residental area in the County of Fingal (previously County Dublin), Ireland.
The village of Howth spans most of the northern part of Howth Head and is connected to nearby Sutton via a narrow strip of land.
Howth is a popular area for birdwatching and sailing, and is also a mecca for anglers.

Of the original stronghold of the Howth family little information is forthcoming, either in history or tradition, The present structure seems to consist of several portions erected at different periods, but is known to have been, to a great extent, rebuilt in the middle of the 16th century by Christopher, twentieth Lord of Howth.
In the south aisle is the tomb of Christopher, twentieth lord of Howth, who died in 1589, and of his wife Elizabeth, both of whom are represented by figures in high relief on the slab of the monument.

Situated on the edge of Howth Castle's rhododendron gardens this portal tomb lies a broken, sad monument.
The two portal stones still stand (although one is leaning and may be close to collapse) and the door slab is still in place, but the huge, rough capstone has slipped, moving the chamber walls and the rear supporting stones.
As I was on Howth again I couldn't resist revisiting this beauty.
