Hrabanus Maurus Magnentius - LoveToKnow 1911
A commentary, Super Porphyrium, printed by Cousin in 1836 among the Ouvrages inedits d'Abelard, and assigned both by that editor and by Haureau to Hrabanus Maurus, is now generally believed to have been the work of a disciple.
The first nominally complete edition of the works of Hrabanus Maurus was that of Colvener (Cologne, 6 vols.
Maurus is the subject of monographs by Schwarz (De Rhabano Mauro primo Germaniae praeceptore, 181 i), Kunstmann (Historische Monographie fiber Hrabanus Magnentius Maurus, 1841), Spengler (Leben des heil.

 IMAGES HRABANUS MAURUS
Hrabanus Maurus or Rabanus Maurus, ninth century monk of Fulda was regarded for his generosity toward the poor, feeding over 300 people a day during the famines of 850 AD.
Given that a large part of the population at the time was not only poor, but illiterate, Maurus' visual poems bridged the gap between a priviledged reading community and the common person.
They were not overly simple, but were made richer by the mix of the complex cyphering, or coding, used to both create and read the poems, as well as the viewer's simple delight of instantly understanding sacred symbols.

Medieval Latin Online (University of Oklahoma)
When Hrabanus Maurus composed his De rerum naturis, he found himself in entirely different circumstances than Augustine: although Hrabanus profited from the so-called "Carolingian Renaissance" and the learned activities promoted by King Charlemagne, his information about the world was strictly circumscribed within the bounds of Christian tradition.
All of Hrabanus Maurus's writings, even his "scientific" writings, are filled with allegory, and his rhetoric resounds with the words and phrases of Catholic Mass and prayers.
Although Hrabanus Maurus's Latin is easier to read than Augustine's, you may find his world much more strange and alien to our modern ways of thought: try to transport yourself to the cultural outpost of Fulda, to the east of the modern city of Frankfurt.

Hrabanus takes this interpretation - terra means "heaven" - and applies that to this version from Matthew 5: blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth = heaven.
Hrabanus moves further on down: terra can mean heaven, or the incarnation, or the Virgin Mary and now: homo ipse.
Now Hrabanus is going to provide interpretations of terra "in malum", negative interpretations, when terra is a symbol of the world of the Devil, not the world of God.
