It encompasses most of the historic region called Hrvatsko Zagorje (Croatian Zagorje).
The Krapina-Zagorje county is a candidate for being the most idyllic county in Croatia: the many villages and small towns spread out across the hillsides are perfect for agriculture (vineyards in particular) and summer houses.
Although beautiful, the many hills rivers, creeks and lakes through many valleys cause a peculiar effect throughout Zagorje: 15% of the year, fog significantly lowers visibility in the area.

Prevent Zlatar, which is the name of the company, was established in September last year, when SKIM Zlatar, a company in bankruptcy, was bought by the Slovene Prevent, the greatest car seat cover producer in Europe, which started with new production in former SKIM facilities.
This was the highest number of newly employed persons in the Krapina-Zagorje County in 2000, and announcements have been made that the company is to employ 50 more workers this year.

One of the most attractive Croatian medieval castles and historic sites, Trakoščan, with its forest-park, lake and nature-trail, its museum and well-preserved interior, is rightly called ''the pearl of Hrvatsko Zagorje''.
