The study by Sui Huang, HMS assistant professor of surgery at Children’s Hospital Boston, and his colleagues could have important implications for two hot areas of research—stem cell and systems biology.
Using DNA microarrays, Huang and his colleagues monitored the expression of 12,600 genes in cells undergoing these two types of treatment.
The advent of DNA microarrays in the late 1990s made it possible to explore the collective behavior of thousands of genes at a time, and yet no one else seemed to be using the new technology for that purpose.
