On Hub Cap [+], his third effort as a leader, Freddie Hubbard [+] sticks to the tried-and-true hard bop formula, which is something of a mixed blessing.
All of the musicians are talented, but only a few are inventive, and that becomes a problem, since it becomes clear that Hubbard is beginning to break free from his influences and develop his own style.

 CD Baby: THE HUB: Trucker
THE HUB is a band whose appetite for far flung sounds often defies categorization and whose members, Sean Noonan, Tim Dahl, Dan Magay play with the conviction and ferocity of men on a mission.
The publicity photo of The Hub, if seen without their music playing for context, would lead one to believe they are a metal band of one form or another, probably thrash.
The thing about The Hub, though, is they don't play thrash metal, death metal, precious metal or any other kind of metal, though at times there's an inclination, due to the attitude, tone and crunch in a song, to call their music avant-gardgebanger.

 DAZZLING KILLMEN Band Page
In the three and a half years since Dazzling Killmen first played St. Louis (their hub) at a party I wasn't invited to, their live shows have become so anticipated and precisely compact that spaces have had to cleared of tables and random objects to hold the crowds.
Bassist Darin Gray, usually the center of attention with his cheeky smile, cartoon-like contorting and gymnastic leaps is a monster during these songs, constructing, along with drummer Blake Fleming, seamless rhythms so tight you could bounce a penny off of them.
The process that has brought the band to this point has included four singles (two on skin graft, two on other very important labels), a live cassette and one previous LP that Nick says he's embarrassed by, but I say it's certainly a decent enough debut.

In fact, Chris and Hub have continued to work on projects together including Chris' 1992 Elektra debut "Be Headed" and the 1998 cd, "HUB", released on Slash/London and produced by Chris.
