Gregg County (H-20), in Northeast Texas, is bounded on the North by Upshur, on the South by Rusk, on the West by Smith, and on the East by Harrison counties.
Northern Gregg County was a part of the hunting grounds of the Caddo Indians, and the part of the county south of the Sabine River was occupied at times by various Indian groups, generally peaceful farming people.
Gregg County, probably due to its sizable fl population, voted Republican in four presidential elections (1880, 1884, 1896, and 1900) during the late nineteenth century.
