De Burgh played a prominent role in the defence of England from the invasion of Louis of France, the son of Philippe II who later became Louis VIII.
De Burgh married three times: (1) Beatrice de Warrenne; (2) Avisa heiress of Gloucester, ex-wife of King John of England (~1217); (3) Princess Margaret of Scotland, daughter of King William I of Scotland (1221).
The relationship between Hubert de Burgh and the later de Burgh's Earl of Ulster and Lord of Connaught is not clear.

Another sunny June day visiting these castles, this castle isn't far from the village of Grosmont itself on the B4347, about 3 miles southwards from the A465 junction at Pontrilas on the border of Wales and England.
Now the gatehouse, curtain walls and towers were built when Hubert had recovered possession of the 3 castles in 1219, but the outer part of the Gatehouse along with the buttressed drawbridge pit is a 14 century addition, interesting place to see.
This Castle is about 6 miles south of Grosmont Castle, again it is on the border of Wales and England on the B4521, I parked on the grass area beside it.

What we see today at Skenfrith Castle was constructed by another Norman lord, Hubert de Burgh, a structure composed of a four-sided curtain wall (with its towers) and the fascinating round keep which dominates the interior.
