 Hud Movie Review
Hud is a film that etches a picture absolute with all the complexities that permeate the everyday lives that people lead and abandon at will.
Hud has a young nephew, Lonnie (Brandon de Wilde), the son of his deceased older brother, who worships the ground he walks on and yearns to be like Hud in every way.
The Sturm and Drang between Hud and his father is like a subtle earthquake that rumbles with humming vibrations until it blows apart years of frustrations that have festered and granulated into a pistil that ejaculates its seeds, pouring secrets out and into the open.

Set on a Texas ranch where Cadillacs, cattle, and transistor radios coexist uneasily, the film stars Paul Newman as the hedonistic, arrogant, and rebellious farmhand Hud Bannon.
Hud is constantly at odds with his kind father Homer (Melvyn Douglas), who blames him for the death of his brother.
Hud further strains their relationship when he begins taking his nephew out drinking and chasing women.

Newman gives an immensely powerful performance and it's a measure of the film's depth that despite the unpleasantness of his character, Hud is a grimly fascinating figure throughout.
Hud himself is the tearaway son of stern Texan patriarch Homer (Douglas).
Caught between them is Hud's impressionable young nephew (De Wilde) and Homer's housekeeper Patricia Neal, who's both attracted to and repulsed by her employer's violent, selfish son.

In 1953, Hollywood's biggest year for 3-D movies, only one of 20 acting nominations was for a film shot in the 3-D process.
The film couldn't use the book's title because the studio thought people would confuse the movie with a popular TV show that already was using the same title.
In 1944, 20 different movies were nominated in the category of musical scoring of a drama or comedy picture.

More digging and bugging parts counter guys to look at wiring diagrams for Grand Prix vehicles showed me that the HUDs didn't use computer communication to get their data, but they used input from the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) at 4000 pulses per mile to get an idea of how fast the car was going.
