  Hudson Strait
Hudson Strait is an arm of the sea connecting the Atlantic Ocean with HUDSON BAY and Foxe Channel and separating BAFFIN ISLAND from the Ungava Peninsula of Québec.
Hudson Strait provides access by sea to the heart of Canada and has been used commercially for 3 centuries, chiefly in connection with the FUR TRADE.
Martin FROBISHER mistakenly entered the strait in 1578, but Henry HUDSON - for whom it is named - was the first European known to have explored it and followed it into the bay.

Henry Hudson Explorer of the Hudson River -- By The Half Moon Press
Hudson was certainly an experienced seaman, commissioned by the Muscovy Company in 1607 to find a quick way from England to the "islands of spicery." He failed in that attempt, and again in 1608 -- each time foiled by ice floes as he attempted to find a fast northerly passage to "the east."
After Hudson decided they weren't entrances to the passage he was seeking, the "Half Moon" sailed north to the mouth of the Hudson River in early September.
Hudson called the river the "River of Mountains" although the Native Americans, with whom the skipper and crew had considerable contact, called it "Muhheakunnuk" (great waters constantly in motion).

 Henry Hudson
Hudson first coasted the east side of Greenland, and being prevented from proceeding northwards by the great ice barrier which stretches from there to Spitzbergen, sailed along it until he reached Newland, as Spitzbergen was then called, and followed its northern coast to beyond 80° N. latitude.
Next year Hudson was again sent by the Muscovy Company to open a passage to China, this time by the northeast route between Spitzbergen and Novaya Zemlya, which had been attempted by his predecessors and especially by the Dutch navigator Willem Barents.
Hudson's confidence in the existence of a Northwest Passage had not been diminished by his three failures, and a new company was formed to support him in a fourth attempt, the principal promoters being Sir Thomas Smith (or Smythe), Sir Dudley Digges and John (afterwards Sir John) Wolstenholme.

Thus, variations in the outflow from Hudson Strait have the potential to impact dense water formation in the Labrador Sea.
A comparison of year-long mooring array data from 1986-1987 and from 2004-2005 shows a significant decrease in the freshwater outflow from Hudson Strait (accompanied by an increase in the heat transport).
Such a change is in agreement with the observed decreasing trend in river input into the Hudson Bay System and with the decreasing trend in sea-ice cover of the region over the last 20 years.

Published data indicate that H3 in eastern North Atlantic cores does not have a prominent Hudson Strait character, nor is there a strong terrigenous flux anomaly.
Together, these data suggest that the Hudson Strait is the main contributor of detritus during H3 in the Labrador Sea.
Given the similarity of the oxygen isotope anomaly in the subpolar North Atlantic, and the low terrigenous flux, we suggest that H3 also represents an important iceberg event from Hudson Strait, that for some reason was less enriched in terrigenous load.
